Fleet managers and car dealers alike face challenges when it comes to optimally equipping their fleet or their customer offer. The choice has a direct impact on fleet costs, driver satisfaction and not least, their health and safety.
But which technologies bring real added value?
Driving dynamics, comfort and safety are largely defined by the chassis. ZF as the leading supplier of chassis solutions in the automotive industry offers an unrivaled product portfolio for all dimensions of vehicle motion control. Two of ZF’s optional products make a particular contribution to customer satisfaction and increased safety: The rear axle steering system Active Kinematic Control (AKC) and the adaptive damping system Continuous Damping Control (CDC).

Agile and safe thanks to rear axle steering
Active Kinematic Control (AKC)
The capability to steer the rear axle has advantages in every driving situation. Increased agility in crowded cities and narrow parking spaces along with higher stability when it matters. In conjunction with vehicle stability control, AKC can even reduce braking distance on surfaces with different friction and improve trailer stability when towing.
AKC Works in Two Different Ways
At low speed: The rear wheels turn in the opposite direction, which reduces the turning radius. This makes even pickups, SUVs, large sedans and electric cars - which often have a longer wheelbase due to the space required for the battery - as easy to maneuver as a compact class vehicle.
At high speed: AKC will turn the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels, enhancing safety: The vehicle becomes noticeably more stable, especially during evasive or lane change maneuvers.
Millions of Satisfied Customers
ZF's active rear axle steering system AKC (Active Kinematics Control) has established itself as a successful product with more than 1,900,000 units produced since production launch in 2013.
Arrive comfortably and safely - thanks to adaptive damping
Continuous Damping Control (CDC)
A vehicle’s features may not have any influence on what the route looks like between start and finish, but they do influence how it is perceived by the vehicle occupants. Whether for sporty cornering or for taking long journeys in comfort, ZF’s Continuous Damping Control (CDC) enables the vehicle body to be stabilized within fractions of a second according to the “skyhook principle” regardless of the road condition. It also allows the driver to switch between sporty - firm and comfortable - and soft damping at the touch of a button.
Prepared for Every Eventuality
The semi-active damping system CDC automatically adapts the wheel-individual damping force within milliseconds, thus enabling the ideal damping for every wheel on all road conditions. This literally irons out road bumps, keeps the wheels on the road even in tight curves, prevents unwanted forces when starting and braking and much more.
Drivers have a need for comfort, driving pleasure and safety. Fleet managers and vehicle dealers can fulfill these wishes with technologies from ZF. Better maneuverability in all driving situations and a wheel individual damping force within milliseconds are two of today’s key requirements that make a real difference to the customer.
Numerous Contented Buyers
More than 62.5 million CDC shock absorbers have been produced since 1997, ensuring comfortable travel and dynamic driving pleasure on roads all over the world.
