Our sensors see the vehicle’s environment and its interior, and our actuators can accelerate, decelerate or steer a vehicle in intelligent ways in the longitudinal, lateral and vertical planes. Actuators will always be required because the hardware is the prerequisite for ensuring that all control commands are implemented precisely in the car and that drivers can control the vehicle in the easiest, most convenient way possible. This applies specifically to maneuverability: As a specialist in Vehicle Motion Control, ZF draws on its long-standing chassis experience to make future models even more agile.

U-Turn in One Go

The EasyTurn suspension strut axle concept doubles the possible steering angle of current front axles from approximately 40 degrees to up to 80 degrees.
EasyTurn reduces the turning radius of a typical midsize passenger car from ten to seven meters. This makes turning and parking maneuvers almost effortless.

Steer-by-Wire as the Simplifier

Because EasyTurn offers an extremely high steering angle, a small steering wheel movement would cause a large deflection with a classic steering system. With Steer-by-Wire, the steering is able to react differently depending on the driving speed so that the steering is less sensitive at high speed than when maneuvering.

The Agility Ace for Passenger Cars

The capability to steer the rear axle has advantages in every driving situation. Increased agility in urban areas, higher stability when it matters. In conjunction with vehicle stability control, AKC can even reduce brake distance and improve trailer stability when towing. AKC is already operating sucessfully according to the SbW principle.
