Modular Gearboxes
The modular gearbox platform SHIFT covers the whole wind market, from 3.000 kNm to 8.000 kNm.
Key Facts
What can Modular Gearboxes provide?
SHIFT, ZF’s modular gearbox platform, anticipates the growing torque segments in the wind market. Its modular structure offers flexibility in turbine development and optimization over the turbine’s lifetime. The SHIFT platform spans torque ranges from 3000 to 8000 kNm, with variants covering specific market segments based on wind speeds and power ranges.
Every platform variant offers more dynamic solutions covering the versatility of the market.
Details
FLEXIBILITY
SHIFT's unique modular platform structure provides flexibility in the development of new turbines. Modularity offers high flexibility in adapting wind turbine designs to market dynamics and allows further optimization over the life of the turbine.
LOGISTICAL AND ECONOMICAL CONSTRAINTS
The platform designs are also driven by logistical constraints and the interchangeability of components within every SHIFT platform variant. Keeping the gear unit interfaces and outer dimensions identical across the torque range of a variant eliminates the need for major drive train/nacelle redesigns over the lifetime of the wind turbines. Standardized building blocks within the gearbox enhance the platform’s supply chain and operational synergies.
LONGER LIFETIME
SHIFT allows OEMs to optimize the gearbox to site specific loads, or even mix different platform variants within one single wind site. This means project development costs improve and the product lifetime increases.
