RB5 – The new High-Performance Tire-Road F&M Tester
The significance of virtual tire development is growing rapidly. In line with this, ZF Test Systems has introduced the RB5, the Road Belt Tester.
The RB5 is designed to cover all state-of-the-art Force & Moment tests, going beyond by introducing a revolutionary concept that elevates these tests to a higher standard. Apart from its technical unique selling points, the RB5 is also crafted as a sustainable system. It operates without hydraulics, relying solely on electric power. This not only enhances its environmental friendliness but also significantly reduces the total cost of ownership.
Diverging from the axle concept of a traditional tire test bench, which, incidentally, does not align with any modern vehicle axle precisely, the RB5 offers the capability to simulate the full range of axle concepts. This concept enables the precise emulation of movements and measurements observed in conventional machines.
Moreover, the RB5 allows for highly specific machine alignments, providing operational advantages such as:
• Inputting the rim offset and adapter thickness allows the machine to determine the wheel center plane, executing subsequent movements accordingly.
• In Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) applications, all six degrees of freedom can be manipulated, mirroring real driving operations accurately.

TET – Tire Efficiency Tester made by ZF
With the TET - the Tire Efficiency Tester - ZF Test Systems has launched a new tire test bench. The main task of the TET is to determine the energy efficiency and rolling resistance of a tire.
The TET can test tires up to 1m diameter with a speed of up to 250 km/h. The standard test procedures are fully automated.
The TET not only tests tires for their efficiency, it also does it itself. During development, the focus was on cost and energy efficiency.
Without any impact on measurement accuracy, attention has been paid to compact and simple design in all areas.
There are no hydraulics on the test bench – 100% electric drives are used. This reduces energy requirements and significantly reduces maintenance. An important application of this machine will be the safeguarding of the label value in tire production. With the well-known test procedure according to ISO 28580 , the rolling resistance coefficient can be continuously safeguarded in tire production in a cost-efficient manner. The high measurement quality also qualifies it for use in development centers. All other established test standards are optionally available.
The TET has a drum size of 2 meter. It can generate a wheel load of 20 kN and test tires at a test speed of up to 250 km/h. Tires up to 1 meter in diameter can be tested. Due to the integrated cabinets, the test bench can be easily shipped and set up. The TET also shows its strengths when it comes to space requirements due to its small footprint.
