The retractable azimuth thruster operates in full azimuth mode when deployed as part of an auxiliary propulsion system to increase the vessel’s station-keeping capabilities. A tunnel can be incorporated in the design of the outer well so that the thruster can be used as bow thruster as well. Typical applications for the propulsion system are OSV, research vessels, jack-up, stand-by and rescue vessels. The thruster is designed with a performance range up to 2,500 kW.

Options

All ZF azimuth thrusters can be customized according to the customer’s requirements. The retractable azimuth thruster is available as an L-drive or Z-drive and can be combined with diesel, electric or hydraulic drive options. ThrusterCommand is an integral part of the propulsion system.

Well mounted from top
Well height and shape can be adapted to suit the vessel design
Optional with integrated tunnel thruster functionality in retracted position
Available with diesel, electric or hydraulic drive options
Electric or hydraulic steering as well as fresh water or sea water cooling available
Fixed pitch propeller or fixed pitch propeller with GS Nozzle, GT Nozzle or GTR Nozzle, optimized for speed, thrust or reverse thrust
Nozzle can be adapted for installation of a closing plate
Propeller protection, rope cutters and anodes available to protect the thruster
Classification by all major classification societies
