Azimuth thrusters combine propulsion and steering in one propulsion package. The contra rotation azimuth thruster is a rudder propeller with contra rotating propellers. The lower blade load leads to reduction in noise and vibrations and ensures high sailing comfort. The thruster can be found in high performance applications as river going passenger vessels. The thruster is designed with a performance range up to 2,000 kW.

Options

All ZF azimuth thrusters can be customized according to the customer’s requirements. The contra rotation azimuth thruster is available as a Z-drive or L-drive and can be combined with diesel, electric or hydraulic drive options. The control system ThrusterCommand is an integral part of the propulsion system.

Well mounted from top or bottom, or as a weld-in installation
Well shape and height can be chosen to best suit the vessel design
Electric or hydraulic steering available
Diesel engine, using upper gearbox with dry or wet (slipping) clutch (Fifi)
Counter rotating fixed pitch propellers for high efficiency and reduced noise and vibration levels
Rope cutters and anodes on the underwater gearbox available to protect the thruster
Classification by all major classification societies
