Transmission

The product range of propulsion for yachts includes a wide variety of transmission for engine up to 13,000 hp, for all installation configurations – vertical offset, down-angle, coaxial and V-drive. They are available in numerous ratios and meet the highest quality standards, intelligent design concepts and, above all, are smooth running.

ZF transmissions are regarded as the benchmark when it comes to the lowest possible power-to-weight ratio, which is why they account for 80 % of the global market for fast ships.

Hybrid Transmission

Yacht owners are in more and more ports around the world faced with strict regulations to reduce emissions or even bans on ships with combustion engines. To meet these regulations, ZF's hybrid transmissions enable electric operation without fuel consumption. This results in zero local emissions and minimal noise and allows yachts to maneuver and stay in regions where vessels with combustion engines are not allowed to pass. Compared to marine diesel, the ZF hyrid technology not only protects the environment, but also saves fuel consumption and therefore money.

The hybrid transmissions of ZF are characterized by maximum efficiency, reliability and space-saving design.

Electric motor

In addition to a broad portfolio of hybrid transmissions, ZF offers electric motors in an electric power range from 150 to 750 kW.

ZF enables shipbuilders to pursue a hybrid platform strategy for the driveline with the transmission and electric motor coming from one source. The combination of these two innovative technologies in one propulsion system guarantees perfect interaction and optimum power delivery.

POD Propulsion Systems

ZF POD propulsion systems offer integrated propulsion and steering systems for large vessels of all types: The solutions ensure unprecedented propulsion efficiency, easy maneuverability, more onboard available space and top comfort and reliability, no matter what application. The ZF POD propulsion systems are compatible with all main marine OEM engines. The POD 4600 is designed for a power range of up to 1.250 kW (1,700 hp), while the ZF POD 4900 covers a power range of up to 1.470 kW (2,000hp).

Thruster

ZF offers a wide range of thrusters with various types of thrusters. The range starts with a power from 50 kW up to 2,500 kW and can be applied as main and auxiliary propulsion, including Dynamic Position (DP)

Thrusters of ZF provide a reliable, comfortable and high-quality propulsion solution that is extremely suitable for all kind of vessel types. With the ZF gearbox knowledge the thruster range is one of the most efficient propulsion solutions available in the market.​ All thrusters are available as L and Z drive and compatible with all engine types.

To reduce emissions the ZF WM azimuth thruster can be executed as Hybrid for main propulsion applications.​

Control system

ZF Marine control systems represent state-of-the-art in electronics technology. The products incorporate well-proven hardware and software to ensure reliability, easy operation, and maintenance.

From our comprehensive line of control systems the optimum equipment can be chosen to suit the specific type of vessel or marine propulsion system (single shaft or multiple shaft system).

SteerCommand

Based on the SmartCommand platform, SteerCommand brings to marine the most advanced steer-by-wire technology for unparalleled performance and greatest ease of installation. Traditional bulky hydraulic steering systems with their plumbing and many liters of fluid are now replaced with simple electronic harnesses. The vessel control experience is also significantly improved. Steering feel at the helm is more precise, and ZF Marine’s patented force feedback system, offers rudder feel at the helm. Individual rudder controls offer increased maneuverability by allowing each rudder to move independently. Safety is our primary concern and as such SteerCommand has double redundancy built in. Because SteerCommand is tied to the SmartCommand control system, it can operate through either main processor. Also, if complete vessel power is lost, the rudders can still be actuated manually.

Fixed pitch propeller and shaftline

ZF's propellers are designed to meet the requirements of yachts and are available in nickel-aluminum-bronze, manganese-bronze or stainless steel, depending on which materials are required. In addition to conventional and commercial thickness options, ZF also offers DuraEdge - a reinforced blade tip solution. DuraEdge is designed for increased durability and longevity in continuous load applications.

We select most efficient gear ratio, recommend changes if needed and analyse flow in every point under the hull using the most advanced CFD tools developed specifically to our requirements. This approach gives us the widest picture of possibilities we can use to run your boat more efficiently, quietly and fast or to any other specific, most demanding requirements
