ZF's Active Safety Technology Solutions

Make CVs safer, smarter & future-ready

ESCsmart - Electronic Stability Control

ZF’s ESCsmartTM Electronic Stability Control system supports the driver to keep the vehicle stable especially in dynamic driving manoeuvres. With over 3 million vehicles across the world installed with ZF’s ESCsmart, the solution combines anti-lock brakes (ABS) and traction control with a lateral stability control function. The system automatically intervenes where vehicle stability enters a critical phase and helps to protect the vehicle against rollover, skidding and – in case of a truck-trailer combination - jack-knifing.

OnGuardMAX 1.0 - Autonomous Emergency Braking System (AEBS)

OnGuardMAX by ZF is an autonomous emergency braking system designed for commercial vehicles. It automatically detects and responds to potential collisions with vehicles and pedestrians, significantly enhancing road safety and preventing accidents. This system instantly responds to avoid or reduce the impact of collisions and alerts drivers when they unintentionally drift out of their lane. Additionally, it boosts vehicle efficiency by enhancing uptime and building driver confidence, regardless of their experience level.

Electronic Braking System

ZF’s Electronic Braking System (EBS) is an advanced brake control technology that transfers the driver’s deceleration request electronically to all braking system components to shorten response time, balance brake forces and provide efficient brake management between service and endurance brakes. With over 3 million units sold worldwide, this market-leading EBS continues to provides the full range of brake control functions for tough commercial vehicle applications.

Anti-lock Braking System

ZF hydraulic & pneumatic anti-lock braking systems (ABS) assist drivers in situations where combinations of road friction, road curvature and vehicle speed result in an unfavourable wheel slip. With over millions of vehicles across the world installed with ZF’s ABS, the system helps to automatically intervene to keep the vehicle stable and controllable in a wide range of different manoeuvres. ZF's Hill Start Aid is an added function that prevents vehicles from unintended rollbacks while driving on slopes and maximizes driver safety and comfort.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

ZF’s Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) offers internal and external wheel sensors, including simple to install strap-mounted sensors, covering all rim sizes and applications. This system constantly monitors the performance of each tire. As soon as a tire issue is detected, the solution alerts the driver to help optimize vehicle uptime, tire life and fuel efficiency - making journeys safer and more economical.

Trailer Electronic Braking System

By intelligently processing data provided by various trailer sensors, ZF’s Trailer Electronic Braking System (TEBS) determines whether the current vehicle dynamics are unsafe or inefficient and triggers countermeasures by actively warning the vehicle operator and, where possible, directing the actuation of brake and/or suspension controls to bring the vehicle back to the desired safe and efficient state. Globally trusted by over 3 million trailers, the system also stores these events and transmits them to the driver via displays and warning indicators.

Reverse Park Assist System

ZF’s Reverse Parking Assist System monitors stationary and moving objects behind the vehicle, including pedestrians, vehicles, cargo, and infrastructure. Fitted with 4 sensors and a buzzer, the system uses ultrasonic technology to sense the distance of the obstacle from the vehicle. On sensing the distance, a buzzer alerts the driver through a series of warning sounds of varying pitch and frequency, to slow down or stop the vehicle to prevent impending collisions.

Reversing Collision Avoidance System

ZF’s TailGUARD -- Reversing Collision Avoidance System -- is designed to detect static and moving objects in the blind spot behind the vehicle. With warning and active braking, the system assists the driver during reversing manoeuvres. Aiming for avoiding any impending collision, the solution can automatically bring the vehicle to a complete stop and can effectively help to maximize safety and vehicle uptime.

Driver Behaviour Monitoring System

ZF’s Driver Behaviour Monitoring System uses a camera mounted on the dashboard to track driver drowsiness or distraction, and issues a warning or alert to get the driver’s attention back to the task of driving. Based on a dual camera system, the system monitors the road and driver status during driving and issues warnings in advance to reduce the risk of accidents. The data is uploaded to the cloud management to measure driver risk assessment and ensure a safer driving experience. Additionally, the system also issues forward collision warning & lane departure warnings.

Connectivity & telematics

ZF’s connectivity solutions empower fleet owners with real-time data to enhance safety of commercial vehicles. Adopting advanced technological solution empowers fleet managers to take effective actions to maximize safety. Here are a few ways in which connectivity and telematics contribute to safety:
  • Real-time monitoring: Telematics systems can provide real-time data on a wide range of vehicle parameters, such as speed, location, and braking patterns. This information can be used to monitor driver behaviour and identify potential safety hazards. For example, if a driver is consistently speeding or braking too hard, telematics data can help to identify this problem and take steps to correct it.
  • Remote diagnostics: Telematics provide real-time diagnostics of the vehicle's systems and provide alerts on potential problems or issues; this can help the fleet manager to proactively schedule the maintenance of the vehicle and ensure it is safe to operate.
  • Predictive maintenance: By collecting real-time data on vehicle health and performance, telematics systems can help to predict when maintenance is required, and schedule the maintenance before it becomes a safety concern.

Trailer Anti-lock Braking System

The trailer ABS controls wheel slip to ensure trailer stability and steerability during braking. It prevents wheels from locking and slows down the vehicle as far as possible within physical limits. ZF´s Trailer ABS is the industry’s first Anti-Lock Braking System for commercial vehicles. With an installed base of more than 9 million systems worldwide, it is the market-leading Trailer ABS.
