Where all the threads come together
A forged joint that usually includes the spindle and steering arm, allowing the wheel to pivot, is known as a Steering Knuckle. It is a forged component that holds the assembly of the suspension, steering, axle, brakes and wheel hub together. The steering knuckle is the end joint which provides directional assistance as per the inputs of the steering wheel. The steering knuckle is a part of the wheel hub which is finally bolted to the wheels. Hence, the final directional changes are attained by the movement given to the steering knuckle. Depending upon the applications and type of suspension used in the vehicle, the knuckle is available with different size and design. The complex interface to control arms, brake caliper, axle drive shaft and suspension strut, if applicable, must be precisely tuned to each other within the framework of chassis design. Smaller unsprung masses thanks to specifically designed lightweight constructions help to significantly increase comfort and improve handling.
