Steer-by-Wire | OEM benefits

Electronically controlled steering system with hand wheel and front axle actuator

Steer-by-Wire (SbW) removes the mechanical link between hand wheel and road wheels.

The steering demand is determined by a) driver input to the steering wheel and/or b) by an Automated Driving or Vehicle Motion Control system and is electronically communicated to a Front Axle Actuator (FAA) positioning accordingly.

To measure the driver steering intention and to provide haptic feedback a Hand Wheel Actuator (HWA) can be integrated in the upper steering column.
