Full Speed AheadZF North America Tackles the Trucking Industry

Sometimes the greatest challenges present the greatest opportunities — something that trucking industry suppliers can attest. ZF has progressively increased its presence in the trucking market, an endeavor which has provided the company with many growth and improvement opportunities. The main concerns of trucking manufacturers, owner operators and drivers include driver comfort, fuel efficiency, driver retention and technology. It is these concerns that largely influence what products suppliers develop for today’s trucking market. ZF’s willingness to rise up to the challenges and create new technologies in response to the trucking industry’s demands has allowed the company to emerge as a leader in the market.

ZF at the Mid-America Trucking Show

Keeping up with the dynamic and constantly evolving trends of the trucking business, ZF presented its latest innovations at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky. The show marked ZF’s first appearance since 2008, and it served as the ideal occasion for the North American debut of a number of key products—including fuel efficient technologies, like the TraXon automated transmission and lightweight chassis designs.

New Transmission TraXon

With a completely new basic transmission and a modular concept, the TraXon meets the demand of the commercial vehicle market for a versatile solution for a broad range of applications. The innovative transmission offers more torque, without compromising the power-to-weight ratio; it has a higher gear spread while the noise quality was improved; and, depending on the application, it can not only be driven by a dry clutch but also by a hybrid module, dual-clutch module or a torque converter clutch. Furthermore, it can be combined with an engine-dependent PTO. For the new transmission, ZF also developed the revolutionary PreVision GPS shifting strategy, which works in an anticipatory and especially fuel-saving way thanks to a GPS connection and an interface to navigation data.

ZF Sets new Standards

With the TraXon and a vast number of innovations in transmission hardware and the control software, ZF sets new standards and enables an enormous functional diversity in the commercial vehicle transmission. “With the TraXon we aim at sustainability,” says Rolf Lutz, Member of the Board of Management responsible for the Commercial Vehicle Technology division. “The development for the current market launch focused on a further increase of economy and customer benefit as well as the suitability for a range of applications which is as broad as possible.”

The TraXon is one of the many ways ZF North America is taking the lead in the trucking market.
