ZF cPOWERSave Continuously
Heavy loads, continuously adjustable speed and easy manoeuvrability: these are the demands that construction machines need to meet. The full power-split CVT (Continuously Variable Transmissions) technology of the cPOWER transmission by ZF combines these characteristics with improved fuel consumption of up to 25 per cent.
Hydrostatic transmissions have been used in construction machinery for a considerable time. Their advantages are obvious: the absence of a mechanical connection between the motor and the driveline means that even when carrying heavy loads there is no wear, as would be the case with clutch transmissions. In addition, the driving speed can be continuously varied via the oil quantities, as if a joystick were the control. The shift from forward motion to reverse is particularly quick, and can be accomplished without stopping first. - In contrast to a force-locking mechanic connexion, it is less efficient. This is ZF's approach of the cPOWER. This is where ZF uses the cPOWER.
Off-road fuel efficiency
The cPOWER continuously variable transmission by ZF combines hydrostatic and mechanic drive concepts. Its power-split continuously variable technology allows for hydraulic soft starts, even when bearing heavy loads, while reducing fuel consumption by up to 25 per cent by using mechanical transmission as much as possible. The mechanical part of the transmission is largely used, right from the moment the engine is started. This can reduce fuel consumption considerably over short journeys, while loading for example. The cPOWER operates at low engine speeds, thus increasing effectiveness and driver comfort even more.
The use of the cPOWER is by no means limited to construction machines. For example, productivity can also be increased with the fuel-saving continuously variable technology in case of material handling and forestry applications.
