ZF Trainees are a group of young people taking part in the ZF Global Trainee Program. In the #traineeblog they give insights about the life as a ZF Trainee.
After one month abroad, most of things are settled, the project is up and running, and the network is growing. There’s always someone that knows someone who also “took part in the same program”. So you take the new name, contact the person and boom - connections are made! Worldwide! Among meetings with our trainee colleagues for the joint project, calls to prospective fourth and final projects, and work to keep the current project on track, it’s obvious that we do our best to get to know people who had been trainee and to understand their path and also hang out with the beloved friends of the current batch.

In the USA, from where I am writing you right now, we had 2 special events. We started with a trip to Chicago for the 4th of July holiday. One current trainee doing his international project in Vernon Hills plus a Brazilian former trainee (batch 13/14) who works there were the hosts for 4 days filled with fun, music and new experiences. The highlight was a great touristic tour throughout beautiful Chicago city including deep dish pizza and a beer garden. Then we went to an exquisite restaurant with a “special” treatment. Besides weird conversations to the staff, the ribs were great and the view to the city at night paid off. We ended up in a traditional blues bar with two great shows. Awesome experience, I just fell in love with Chicago.

From the other side of the world, our colleagues in Japan had a special dinner with former trainees that are living there. Nights covered with sushi and sake provided fun and blurry pictures, as you can see.

The second event was orchestrated by North American HR to welcome the new batch of trainees, starting in July. Former trainees from the whole world (American, Chinese, Brazilian, German people and so on…) that are working in Michigan went to Northville to have lunch, talk and exchange information. It was a great time to see the different paths people took after the program and to feel a sense of belonging to such a strong and special network which is always open to help, to ask and to talk. After the American lunch (pizza and salad!) we had a spontaneous tour through labs guided by former trainees and curious ones from the other ZF plants.
Elsewhere in Asia, current trainees in China went to party a birthday in a karaoke night. No doubt the best option to celebrate in a Shanghai way. Oh, I wanted to be there as well!
It’s always interesting to meet people, especially when we are in such a nomad way of living. We know we may not have other chance and the time to encounter is now. Because, the program will suddenly be over. But the people that made part of these days can be there for you in the future. So to the new batch, welcome, take your time and have fun!
Cheers,
Debora
