ZF Trainees are a group of young people taking part in the ZF Global Trainee Program. In the #traineeblog they give insights about the life as a ZF Trainee.
Hey guys, I am Dhanashree and I was a trainee in the batch of 2012-13. I’m a 26 year old Mechatronics Engineer who loves building circuits, repairing electronic gadgets in my free time and at work I love working on the future transmission projects.

For me the trainee program was the chance to explore ZF and myself with some long lasting experiences and memories. It was an experience of working in different departments, cultures, locations, in challenging languages and with amazing people through 4 projects and a worthwhile 3 week production internship.
But the most important thing that I unknowingly took with me from the trainee program was the network of people, great colleagues and good friends that I met. I say unknowingly because, you never realize how precious this network is until you know what it means in your day to day job/life to know colleagues or have friends around the globe in your endeavors after the trainee program.

In my case, I experienced it during the program itself as I was introduced to a former trainee named Henning Weinbrenner, who encouraged me to do a project in project purchasing. He also gave me the related contacts. It did not work out with the project but I did get a job in that field after the program.
Within the past three years I have held three different positions within project purchasing, and I have efficiently used this network in different situations for myself or for my colleagues and associates. For example, during a launch for a new product in China, it was easier for me to get in touch with the right people and help the situation as I had worked in Shanghai during my trainee program.
Currently, being responsible for all the business unit projects for automatic transmissions from purchasing, I lead a team of around 10 purchasing project leaders for projects in Germany, China, Hungary and USA. In my current job, I especially enjoy the challenges of working on future products with respect to achieving competitive costs, concepts and project milestones. It is also amazing working with the cross functional and global teams to achieve project targets.

The Trainee Program is amazing!

I am very privileged to be a part of the trainee tradition that we have going and I hope this article of mine gives you some insight about the abstract things or values that you will unknowingly take.
