Nozzle
On the one hand the rudder propellers can be delivered with an open propeller or with a nozzle. An open propeller offers less resistance and provides optimized speed.
An additional mounted nozzle protects the propeller and increases the efficiency. This optimization is due to the reduction of the current losses at the ends of the propeller blades.
Furthermore, the fuel consumption is reduced which leads to a reduction in CO2 emissions when a nozzle is applied. Noise and vibration levels can be reduced with a nozzle without influencing the sailing comfort.
Important for the decision whether to use an open propeller or an additional nozzle is the sail profile of the respective application. The offered nozzles can be rotated 360 degrees and therefore also function as rudders.
GS Nozzle > Optimized for speed
- Shorter profile lengths (40% of the propeller diameter)
- Optimized for speed
- Reduces braking distance for a vessel equipped with nozzle
Typical applications with a GS Nozzle are passenger vessels or dredger were speed is important.
GT Nozzle > Optimized for thrust
- Same bollard pull with less power possible
- Reduces braking distance for a vessel equipped with nozzle
Typical applications for a GT Nozzle are tugs, pusher tugs, or vessels in the offshore area like workboats or cable layer.
GTR Nozzle > Optimized for reverse thrust
- Profile lengths - 50% of the propeller diameter
- Improved station keeping
- Optimal thrust results forward and reverse
- Reduces braking distance for a vessel equipped with nozzle
