ZF Partners with Caudwell Marine on Diesel Outboard

Propulsion specialist ZF has partnered with British marine propulsion technology firm Caudwell Marine to develop a transmission system for its new V6 diesel outboard engine.
ZF is a supplier of systems for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, marine and industrial technology. The technical partnership sees ZF supporting Caudwell Marine in enhancing the performance and capabilities of its 300hp V6 diesel outboard, which will be available later this year.
As part of the new partnership, ZF has developed a twin-clutch transmission system that integrates with Caudwell Marine’s purpose-built turbo-charged V6 diesel powerhead and Axis-Drive steering system with Duo Prop.
The agreement extends further, with active involvement in Caudwell Marine’s lower unit assembly. While the lower unit is Caudwell’s own design, the connection leverages ZF’s experience in precision manufacturing.

Caudwell says ZF has played an important role in helping ensure its 300hp turbo-charged V6 diesel outboard engine ‘delivers exceptional performance and durability even in the most demanding marine environments.’
“We have been thrilled to embark on this technical partnership with ZF,” says Peter Ordway, commercial director at Caudwell Marine. “Initial design and development discussions started some years ago, and our relationship has grown and grown as we now reach the point of series product units.
“ZF’s expertise and track record in engineering excellence perfectly complement our vision to bring new technology solutions to the marine industry. Together with ZF, we are very confident that we will deliver a product that exceeds the expectations of marine professionals and commercial operators alike.”
"Both companies are known for their commitment to innovation, quality and performance. This collaboration represents a synergistic fusion of their strengths and creates a platform for advancements that will help shape the future of marine propulsion." - ZF
