Integrated Solutions
Hybrid Transmissions
ZF offers a full-spectrum hybrid propulsion solution for marine vessels, integrating hybrid-ready transmissions, electric motors, converters, and control systems. The complete hybrid system accommodates electric power inputs of 150-750 kW when adding a power-take-in (PTI) to its conventional powertrain.
The hybrid-ready transmissions span from about 600 kW up to 11,500 kW of conventional engine output, enabling retrofit or new-build applications across a wide range of vessels.
The hybrid architecture delivers multiple operation modes – fully electric, conventional diesel, boost, generator – allowing for optimized performance, reduced fuel consumption, lower emissions, and quieter operation, especially in ports or sensitive areas. Its modular PTI configuration and compact design facilitate easier integration, whether for new ship designs or upgrading existing platforms. View options:

- ZF 3300 Hybrid Module
ZF’s new Hybrid Module combines the proven ZF 3300 PTI transmission, capable of handling up to 1,940 kW at 2,450 rpm, with application-specific electric motor options of 150, 200, or 300 kW. Its defining feature is a newly developed supporting frame that centers the electric motor with the transmission, eliminates the need for a separate base or offset-adjustment coupling, and integrates a custom torsion clutch to absorb vibrations. This plug-and-play design simplifies installation and maintenance, reduces space requirements, and makes the system compatible with both new builds and existing ship platforms. Offering a compact, efficient, and easy-to-install solution, the Hybrid Module enables shipyards and operators to advance electrification without sacrificing performance or valuable onboard space. - ZF 3200 A/V PTI Hybrid Transmission
The new 3200 A/V PTI Hybrid Transmission is a down-angle variant for hybrid drive systems. The compact design and lightweight construction with an aluminum housing make it the ideal choice for fast craft with limited installation space in the power range from 1,295 kW to 1,940 kW. Thanks to the unique gearing design, an additional motor unit (for example, an additional electric motor) can be connected via its own drive shaft – without reducing the permissible power of the main drive. In this way, ZF 3200 A/V PTI enables ship designers to implement hybrid propulsion where it was previously challenging, such as in yachts, patrol boats and ferries.
Additionally, ZF 3200 A/V features two hydraulic shift clutches that are controlled by a common hydraulic control function. This guarantees that only the correct unit transmits its drive power to the transmission at any given time. An internal diagnostic tool ensures that both motor units work together flawlessly in every driving situation. To top it off, ZF 3200 A/V emits exceptionally low noise, especially in yachts during purely electric operation. - ZF 3000 NRD PTI Transmission
Waterjet drives are often the preferred choice for manufacturers of yachts and workboats like ferries, crew vessels, and firefighting boats where speed is paramount. The all-new ZF 3000 NRD PTI is a groundbreaking advancement in these applications, enabling hybrid propulsion for waterjet vessels with power ratings up to 1,940 kW.
As part of ZF's successful 3000 series, the NRD PTI transmission is a compact and lightweight solution for hybrid propulsion. It offers low-noise and low-emissions operation while delivering powerful support for rapid maneuvering. Designed with diagonal offset for waterjet applications using hybrid technology, the NRD PTI allows for multiple waterjet installations in tight spaces. Its waterjet-specific ratios ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
POD Systems
ZF’s POD 4900 model integrates propulsion, steering, and hybrid drive components into a unified, high-efficiency module designed for larger vessels. Its hybrid-capable transmission system includes a Power-Take-In (PTI) option that enables an auxiliary electric motor to augment or replace diesel power during low-load, maneuvering, or emissions-sensitive operations. This allows ships to run in all-electric mode when appropriate, reducing fuel consumption, lowering emissions, and improving onboard comfort.
The system’s design emphasizes compactness and integration: the combined propulsion and steering functions reduce system complexity while delivering precise maneuverability. Its hybrid configuration ensures seamless interaction between the electric motor and primary drive, making it an effective solution for vessels needing both high performance and cleaner operation in demanding marine environments.

Full Electric Non-Clutchable (ENC) Transmissions
This series marks a major step in supporting the marine industry’s transition to fully electric propulsion. The first product, the ZF 3000 ENC, delivers exceptional power density and efficiency, with a noise-, vibration-, and efficiency-optimized design suited for high-rpm electric drives. Available across all ZF configurations from ZF 2000 to ZF 9000, including sub-configurations, the ENC series strengthens ZF’s portfolio that already serves fuel-based and hybrid vessels. It answers rising market demand for cleaner propulsion solutions, providing shipyards, operators, and vessel owners with advanced electric options.
Engineered to maximize the efficiency of high-rpm electric motors, ZF ENC transmissions optimize power transfer to the propeller, reducing energy use while enhancing range and operational economy. Their lightweight construction further lowers battery demand and operating costs, making them a practical and sustainable solution for demanding marine applications.

Thrusters
ZF AT Series Thrusters
The Azimuth Thruster (AT) series is the latest line from ZF. This well-mounted, Z-Drive thruster is compatible with a wide range of commercial vessels, including commercial fishing vessels. It supports a maximum power of 100 kW to 2,500 kW, increasing the power and thrust capabilities of the previous product line. Fully customizable to nearly any hull shape or vessel profile, the ZF AT series is one of the most flexible products on the market.
All thrusters in ZF’s AT series can be executed as part of a hybrid or fully electric system, requiring reduced engine power during vessel operation, full electric sailing, dynamic positioning and slow cruising while in electric mode, and more. Operators who install the AT series aboard vessels are one step closer to earning a CLEANSHIP class notation.
The new hybrid ZF AT product family uses an electric motor placed at the upper gearbox’s Power-Take-In (PTI) whose performance is tailored to the individual vessel type and application. Said applications include professional vessels ranging from tugs and pushers, ferries, research vessels, supply boats and others. It allows for full electric sailing and maneuvering, which is especially useful in ports or waterways with strict emission and noise regulations. It can also be used as an additional booster, for instance when evading obstacles or increasing the top speed with the additional electric power. When used in firefighting purposes, the hybrid setup eliminates the necessity for a more expensive controlled pitch propeller. Here, the diesel engine and electric motor will separately drive the firefighting pump and thruster, respectively.
Further adding to its sustainability scorecard: the ZF AT 80 is equipped with a special seal arrangement designed for biodegradable oil (EAL). Set up in a L-drive configuration such as a retractable or tunnel thruster, the ZF AT 80 is also available as a purely electrically driven solution. Additionally, extra features – like an integrated brake or a Power-Take-Off (PTO) – make the ZF AT 80 the perfect solution for a variety of use cases.
