ConAct
Pneumatic clutch release cylinder for Automated Manual Transmissions
Key Facts
What can ConAct provide?
The ZF pneumatic clutch release cylinder ConAct remarkably improves the performance of AMT transmissions for medium and havy duty commercial vehicles. The high level of integration reduces the number of components and the system weight. Due to the combination with push-type clutches the installation length could be minimized and the transmission assembly is simplified.
Details
ZF has replaced the common fork type clutch actuation, consisting of clutch booster, fork, and releaser, by the pneumatic release cylinder ConAct, located concentrically around the transmission input shaft. This permits the elimination of all mechanical and hydraulic connections as well as the clutch booster, saving weight and installation length. Furthermore, the usual hydraulic clutch release system contains a large number of components, with every interface increasing the risk of failure.
The ZF pneumatic release cylinder ConAct is designed for the use in AMT transmissions combined with push-type diaphragm spring clutches in heavy- and medium-duty commercial vehicles. Controlled by the vehicle's electronics, a solenoid valve regulates the clutch actuation by means of the pneumatic ConAct cylinder. The system automatically determines the ideal release position - even for challenging driving situations such as maneuvering, starting on an incline with heavy load, or starting on a slippery surface. The danger of clutch overload or misuse by the driver is eliminated. And with its low number of system components and the direct clutch actuation, ConAct remarkably improves the controllability of the clutch in AMT applications.
