Commercial vehicle fleets are becoming ever more connected, allowing for collection of data sources such as fuel consumption, driving condition, driver behaviour, braking events, location, etc., to name just a few.
The cost of this increased connectivity eats into the already-small margins of most fleets, but how could be used to a fleet's advantage?
Question: How might we help the fleet manager use their vehicle data to reduce their operating costs?
Challenge: Develop a concept that utilises driving insights to optimise the operation of a fleet for its owner.
- Start with a clear business case/idea.
- Focus on identifying how connecting vehicle data to alternative data sources can add value.
Superficial damage to the tires, body and undercarriage of a commercial vehicle is a problem to a fleet, causing unforeseen costs or in the worst case leading to more critical problems if not resolved.
Automated visual inspection can help catch these damages, but what does the interface between this automated system and the fleet manager look like?
Question: How might we assist a fleet manager to better monitor and manage the status of their vehicles?
Challenge: Develop a concept that assists a fleet manager to better understand and digitally sense the health of the fleet.
- Focus on identifying the right customer problem to solve, rather than jumping straight into the technical solution.
- Consider similar approaches in other industries, could that work for this topic?
Alternatively, you can work on a concept of your own choosing related to Commercial Vehicles. We're excited to see what you can come up with!
