Operating future construction sites require an exceptional level of safety - this is true for conventional off-highway technology – and especially for automated driving systems. This is why ZF offers tailor-made safety solutions for construction machinery.
Existing driveline components are extended by environmental sensors such as radar systems. This technology supports drivers through rear-view monitoring, warning them of obstructions or pedestrians in the danger zone and enables the vehicle to “see”.
The high performance computing platform ZF ProAI allows vehicles to “think” and understand their environment by processing and interpreting sensor data through deep learning technology. ZF can use the processed data to develop sub-systems for highly automated functions in off-highway applications.
Advanced driveline systems then convert the insights gained into actions (“act”).
As a full system supplier ZF demonstrates how sensor systems, electronic control units and most importantly perfectly matched driveline technology can be linked to create intelligent mechanical systems.
Radar Technology // Rear Observation Assist
The short range radar sensors of the "Gen5" have been developed to support functions such as turn assist, rear observation, lane change assist and front cross traffic alert.
Environment perception works within a range of up to 90 meters (optionally up to 160 meters) in a grid of 20 centimeters and an opening angle of +/- 75 degrees.
Thanks to its 77 GHz RF CMOS technology, it is suitable for automated driving functions.

The short-range radar sensors of the "Gen5" enable advanced environment detection.
