ZF Trainees are a group of young people taking part in the ZF Global Trainee Program. In the #traineeblog they give insights about the life as a ZF Trainee.
Hey guys, Mike here! I begin my journey from Edmonton, Alberta: a city in western Canada which most of you have probably never heard of. Edmonton is North America’s northernmost city with a metropolitan population of over 1 million. It’s mostly known for its bustling energy sector, highly ranked educational institutions, and multi-cultural atmosphere. After completing my degrees in Commerce and Supply Chain Management from the University of Alberta and Antwerp Management School, I set out to join the rapidly changing, highly innovative automotive sector through the ZF Trainee Program.Currently I find myself at ZF Marine Propulsion Systems in Padova, Italy, where I am situated for my second project; it’s a welcome change from the cold Canadian winters I am used to experiencing!

Apart from eating great Italian cuisine at the canteen and taking part in many espresso breaks, my project consists of merging my finance and supply chain backgrounds through managing the implementation of cost optimization projects generated from a marine transmission product clinic. A product clinic is an innovative approach where experts from all across the ZF Group come together to generate new ideas to optimize costs and processes.
To me, this is what makes the ZF Trainee Program special; having the opportunity to work on meaningful challenges, and across cultures, in a variety of businesses within the ZF Group. So far it’s been great experience and I’m excited to see what the next two rotations will bring.
Arrivederci from Sunny Italy,
