ZF Trainees, March 27, 2017
ZF Trainees are a group of young people taking part in the ZF Global Trainee Program. In the #traineeblog they give insights about the life as a ZF Trainee.
My name is Dominique Fuchs. When people ask where I’m from I usually either answer ‘It’s complicated’, or ‘Europe’. With a French first name and a German last name, I’ve always had a tough time explaining to people that I’m from the Netherlands. Although my parents are German, I was actually raised in the flat neighbor to Germany. My broad interests and curiosity have now led me back to my country of origin to work at ZF. That road was never straightforward however.

With a Bachelors’ in Industrial Design Engineering and a Masters’ in Biomedical Engineering, I am a far from typical entrant into the automotive industry. However, the current developments in this industry are far too interesting for me not to enter this field. Also, working for a global player such as ZF has the advantage of allowing me to experience a broad variety of working environments. In the past, I have enjoyed traveling during internships and academic exchanges. The experiences abroad have helped me to development tremendously in all aspects, both personally and professionally. That is why I simply couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to join the trainee program when offered a choice, since I knew how fulfilling and rewarding these various exchanges can be.
When I’m not busy writing or editing blog posts, I like to play saxophone, take photographs or go hiking. The traveling during the traineeship is great for the latter two, but the former has been left lacking because it is very hard to find a band to join during the short period of the projects. I am therefore also looking forward to settling down and getting a band together again, once that time should come.
See you next time!
