ZF Trainees are a group of young people taking part in the ZF Global Trainee Program. In the #traineeblog they give insights about the life as a ZF Trainee.
Hi everyone, What if you joined a company and as soon as you start they would offer you the chance to spend some time in another, totally different company, they recently acquired? This is what happened to me and my fellow colleague Arvind. For our first assignment we had the chance to spend some time at TRW, another huge automotive supplier that is now a very important part of ZF Group (for those interested, here you find some information regarding the acquisition).

We both had the first assignment in Alfdorf, not far from Stuttgart (btw a nice city to visit for the automotive freaks!), which is the Global Headquarters of the Business Unit OSS (Occupant Safety Systems).
The focus of TRW was in fact to develop safety systems for passenger vehicles (like Airbags, Seatbelt pretensioners etc). These are already key components, which will become even more important in the future with the advent of autonomous driving!
I worked in the Core Engineering department, supporting the R&D activities in the development of a new Snake-pretensioner (for more info click here) .
Being introduced as “Trainee from ZF” was sometimes fun, as people regarded us as very important representative from the mother company, but on the other hand there was a lot of curiosity from everyone with regards to the trainee program. We got awesome support by the local HR representative, who also arranged us meetings with the head of the Business Unit.
All in all a great experience, and who knows, see you soon TRW!
