Foundations in Mechanical Engineering

My journey began in Bursa, Turkey, where I pursued a degree in Mechanical Engineering. From an early age, I was fascinated by mechanisms, which naturally led me to choose this field. After graduating in 2006, I stepped into the professional world, working for six years in the heating, ventilation, and automotive sectors.

During this time, I developed a deep appreciation for problem-solving and innovation, which paved the way for the next phase of my career. In 2013, I joined ZF as a test engineer - a decision that would shape my professional path in profound ways.

An Opportunity in Germany

Shortly after joining ZF, I was presented with an incredible opportunity to work in Schweinfurt, Germany, for seven months. This experience became a cornerstone of my career.

Growing with ZF

Since 2013, my career at ZF has been a continuous journey of growth. I have taken on various roles, including test engineer, senior test engineer, team leader, and team manager. As of 2022, I have also been serving as the In-Country Manager for the Gebze R&D location, in addition to my role as Core Engineering Manager.

Based in Gebze, Kocaeli - near Istanbul - I lead a team focused on designing shock absorber components and systems for passenger vehicles. Our work ensures global design standards while enhancing driving safety and comfort. We strive for sustainable, reliable solutions, making a meaningful impact on the automotive industry.

A Day in My Life

My typical day is divided into three parts:

Team Communication and Task Management: As we are a growing organization, I dedicate time to developing and mentoring my team of 18+ members.

Reporting and Meetings: Participating in meetings and ensuring transparent reporting keeps our projects aligned with company goals.

Future Planning: I also focus on exploring potential future business opportunities and staying updated with industry trends through tools like ZF Zoom.

Skills, Challenges, and Rewards

Key skills for my role include technical expertise, effective communication, mentorship, and strategic thinking. These abilities enable me to guide my team, build a work environment based on trust, and align our efforts with organizational objectives.

However, challenges are inevitable. One of the most significant is balancing diverse departmental expectations to develop sustainable, standardized designs. Additionally, the dynamic work environment in Turkey requires constant team restructuring and spirit-building.

Despite these challenges, I strive to address engineering issues, collaborate with experts, and foster a positive work experience. Seeing the tangible results of our efforts is truly rewarding.

Reflections on ZF

When I first joined ZF, I was not fully aware of its global scale. Over time, I grew to appreciate the company’s innovative vision, commitment to excellence, and employee-first approach. ZF’s open communication culture and vast global network allow seamless collaboration with experts, which I find invaluable.

Opportunities like the ZF Excellence Award event in 2019, where I presented to the top management, have further cemented my pride in working here.

Work-Life Balance and Future Aspirations

ZF’s emphasis on work-life balance through remote work options and supportive management practices has been crucial. It enables me to maintain harmony between professional and personal life while continuously growing.
