India is strategically important as a growth market for ZF, and the Group has been in operations on the subcontinent for over six decades, with robust plans for growth. Most of ZF Group's strategic divisions and business units are already present in India and cater to the automotive and industrial segments, with expansive manufacturing and engineering footprint across the country.
Locations
ZF operates in India through 14 entities including one joint venture, and 10 global engineering centers. ZF Group in India has its corporate office in Pune. With a strong presence across the country ZF Group in India has steadily grown its manufacturing footprint to 18 locations. The ZF Aftermarket division provides a wide range of spare parts for product brands SACHS, LEMFÖRDER, TRW, and WABCO with strong service support.
ZF Group is represented in the Indian market, with high end technology products that are locally produced for diverse vehicle applications such as:
- Active and Passive Safety systems, Steering systems, clutch systems, axle systems and chassis and suspension components for commercial vehicles
- Steering Systems, transmissions, and chassis systems for trucks
- Steering Systems, transmissions, and axles for off-highway applications
- Gearboxes for the wind turbine industry
- Powertrain, chassis components and safety devices for Light Vehicle industry
Other applications of ZF products include rail, aerospace, marine, and defense vehicles. A strong local software and mechanical design and application engineering team supports the local OEMs on product development.
The ten global technology centers for ZF in India have a strong focus in the emerging fields of Electric Mobility, Autonomous Driving, Vehicle Motion Control, electronics, embedded software, and mechanical engineering. With a presence across the country, ZF in India can provide strong local software design and application engineering support to domestic and global OEMs for their product development.
ZF in India employs more than 15,400 people across India, including its JV partners.
Regional Headquarters, Pune
In 2015, ZF group reinforced its commitment of expanding in a growth market by setting up a multi-product facility in one of the key automotive hubs of India, at Chakan, Pune. The strategy of working in close proximity of customers was also one of the compelling reasons for the move. Since then, this facility, which is also the regional headquarter for ZF Group in India has grown multifold.
The facility spread of over 85,000m2 houses ZF Group's Commercial Vehicle, Car Powertrain, and Aftermarket businesses. The synergies from working under one roof enable improved efficiencies and compelling value proposition to our customers. A robust design and application engineering team collaborates closely with customers to ensure fit to market technologies are offered to OEMs. The materials management team in this facility supports the global purchasing objectives of the ZF Group and is closely aligned with our global sustainable sourcing goals.
Technology Centre India, Hyderabad
Technology Centre India is a key pillar in the Digitalization and Software strategy of ZF Group.
ZF Technology Centre India (TCI) in Hyderabad was established in 2017, ushering in an era of change at ZF. ZF Technology Center in India plays an essential role as a building block in the company’s digitalization and software strategy. With the expanding need for software and digitalization in the auto sector, ZF TCI continues to be of strategic importance in ZF Group's plan for Region India.
ZF expanded its technology center in Hyderabad in 2022, making it the largest software hub for ZF Group globally. This new facility further strengthens ZF Group's presence in the Region and increases support to the global and local requirements for the future of mobility.
Currently, ZF has more than 3,400 engineers working on various development projects from India on technologies related to ADAS, Steer-by-Wire, Integrated braking control, Inverters, Reducers, E-drives, other intelligent mechanical systems and more.
The India technology center provides critical support in the area of electronics, embedded software, and mechanical engineering. It focuses on blend of hardware and software solutions like pre-Vision, lane departure warning, object detection, cameras, radars, simulations, other advanced algorithms and techniques for auto and industrial segments. It plays a pivotal role in the development of the core and emerging automotive technologies including Automated Driving functionalities, Active Safety, Chassis Solutions and e-mobility.
ZF TCI is deeply integrated with the 16 main development centers of ZF worldwide.
ZF Wind Power Coimbatore Pvt. Ltd.
ZF Wind Power is a globally established designer, manufacturer, and supplier of advanced gearbox solutions, supplying major manufacturers of gear-driven wind turbines with a gearbox output range up to 9.5MW and serving all key wind power segments. Products from ZF Wind Power Coimbatore are installed in onshore and offshore wind farms.
ZF Wind Power, is headquartered in Lommel, has a global footprint with manufacturing presence in Belgium, Germany, India, China, and the US.
ZF Wind Power Coimbatore (India) is a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant, fully integrated wind turbine gearbox manufacturing facility supplying for India and meeting global wind turbine requirements with a plant capacity of 5,500 MW capacity. Our Coimbatore plant employs more than 1,100 people and with their support is determined to be the leading supplier in the Indian market, committed in making wind power the most attractive energy source.
