In India, ZF is one of the leading suppliers of technology solutions and services that is shaping mobility trends in the country. The group has had operations on the subcontinent for over three decades. In fact, the U.S. company TRW, which was acquired by ZF in May 2015, has been in India for roughly half a century. Most of ZF Group's strategic divisions and business units are already present in India and cater to the automotive and non-automotive segments in the country.

ZF operates in India through seven legal entities; two wholly owned legal entities and five joint venture partners. The regional headquarter; ZF India Pvt. Ltd., is a multi-product facility based in Chakan, Pune. The group has a strong presence in the country that has steadily grown to spread across manufacturing 14 locations in India. ZF Aftermarket division provides a wide range of spare parts for product brands SACHS, LEMFÖRDER and TRW with strong service support.
ZF Group is represented in the Indian market, with local production companies manufacturing parts for diverse vehicle applications as follows:

  • Active and Passive Safety systems, Steering systems, clutch systems, axle drives and chassis components for passenger cars
  • Steering Systems, transmissions and chassis systems for trucks
  • Steering Systems, transmissions and axles for off-highway applications
  • Gearboxes for the wind turbine industry

ZF is increasing its local aftermarket and service presence that caters to these various segments and product portfolios.

Additionally, the ZF Group supplies high-end technology products, such as transmissions, axle drives and suspension components for luxury and high-performance passenger cars and buses in India.Other applications of ZF products include rail, aerospace, marine and armored vehicles. A strong local mechanical design and application engineering team supports the local OEMs on product development.

ZF recently set-up the first technology center in India in Hyderabad, with a focus in the areas of electronics, embedded software, and mechanical engineering. ZF employs over 12,000 employees across India, including the JV partners.

In 2015, ZF group reinforced it's commitment of expanding in a growth region by setting up a multi-product facility in one of the key automotive hubs of India- Chakan,Pune. The group strategy of working in close proximity of customers was also one of the compelling reasons for the move. Since then, this facility,which is also the regional headquarter for ZF Group in India has grown multifold.

The facility spread of over 85,0000 sqmtrs houses ZF Group's Commercial Vehicle,Car Powertrain and Aftermarket businesses. The synergies from working under one roof enable improved efficiency and compelling value proposition to our customers. A strong design and application engineering team collaborates closely with customers to ensure market oriented technologies are offered to OEMs. The materials management team in this facility supports the global purchasing objectives of the ZF group.

India Technology Centre, Hyderabad

The India Technology Centre is a key pillar in the Digitalization strategy of ZF Group

The ZF Group inaugurated its new ZF India Technology Center (ITC) in Hyderabad on March 2,2017,thus ushering in an era of change at ZF. Currently, ZF has more than 1,000 engineers working on development projects from India through its service partners and employees. In the last one year, it has successfully added more than 600 talented engineers to its workforce at ITC. The center will employ 2,500 engineers by 2020.

ZF’s first technology center in India is an essential building block of the company’s digitalization strategy. Deeply integrated with the 19 main development centers of ZF worldwide, the India technology center plays a critical support role in the area of electronics, embedded software and mechanical engineering. It is focusing on software that would amount to 80% of the R&D work and is playing a pivotal role in the development of the core and emerging automotive technologies including automated driving functionalities and E-mobility.
