ZF Vision Zero
ZF consistently pursues the target of “Vision Zero” – mobility without accidents and without emissions.
As one of the biggest automotive suppliers worldwide and with our intelligent mechanical systems, we have a unique product portfolio to help shape the mobility of tomorrow. At the same time, we expand the “ZF Vision Zero Ecosystem” through the cooperation oh highly specialized partners and shares in leading technology companies. By this, we foster our position as a full system supplier of modern assistance systems and automated driving functions.
Our Innovation Hub in Silicon Valley is a foothold for the collaboration with strategic partners and talents, together with whom we aim to drive on the development of the big topics of autonomous driving, pioneering mobility concepts and data analytics.
Around 90 percent of all accidents are caused by human error, making them one of the biggest risk factors in road traffic.
ZF fully believes that automated driving has the potential to increase road safety significantly, and by this contribute to a drastic reduction of road fatalities worldwide. Through the perfect synchronization and tuning of mechatronics, sensors, assistance and occupant protection systems, we are consistently working on exploiting the full safety potentials of all type of vehicles, in order to get considerably closer to our “Vision Zero” target.
Since the beginning of 2016 a dedicated ZF Division, Division E-Mobility, is working on the development and sales of hybrid modules, plug-in hybrid transmissions and purely electric drive systems for passenger cars, trucks, buses and bicycles. For vehicle manufacturers, this portfolio offers multiple application options in diverse vehicle segments.
So, ZF already provides essential components for the concrete realization of its “Zero Emissions” vision.
R&D for Autonomous Driving and New Mobility Concepts
ZF is an agile, innovational company, creating products ready for serial production through its own research and development efforts at 21 locations in 8 countries and by targeted investments in the future. In 2016 alone, we have spent two billion euros on these topics.
The newly opened ZF Innovation Hub in Silicon Valley aims at three targets: find the right partners in the areas of digitalization, artificial intelligence, automated driving and new mobility concepts, cooperate, invest. As of late, the University of California in Berkeley has become an academic partner (see also ZF press release dated Aug 31, 2017). Through this, ZF wants to promote the areas of highly and fully automated driving.
