Safety Days Hockenheim A Unique Customer Experience on the Test Track
The ZF Safety Days 2016 presented the expanded portfolio of the new ZF for the first time.
"Practice instead of theory" was the motto of the ZF Safety Days, which took place at the Hockenheimring from June 13 to17. The idea of the event is that customers get to know ZF products at an exhibition and at the same time have the possibility to talk to the company's engineers as well as test the vehicles themselves at the driver training center.
This year, the Safety Days were larger than ever, presenting the joint ZF and ZF TRW portfolio for the first time. The customers – a total of 250 representatives from several manufacturers – had the opportunity to witness first hand the new strength of the company. The event featured workshops, an exhibition area of 500 square meters and 29 vehicles, some of which were already fitted with the combined technology.
The united product strength demonstrated in Hockenheim perfectly fits ZF's forward-looking strategy of being a technology leader that caters to the megatrends of tomorrow. The Safety Days 2016 were all about future mobility concepts. The slogan "Mechanical Systems" served as the motto for the event which precisely sums up the strengths of the combined portfolio of ZF and its new Active and Passive Safety Technology Division: The intelligent networking of sensors, electronic control units and actuators has given vehicles fitted with ZF technology the ability to see, think and act. This makes the cars of today far safer and is the key factor in securing the automated driving functions of tomorrow.
"An event like this is exceptionally important", said Stefan Schmitt, head of marketing communications and Safety Days project manager. "On the one hand, we provide our customers with hands-on experience of our technologies. On the other, the event serves as a platform for a vivid exchange with OEM representatives in order to better get to know their requirements."
Intelligent Mechanical Systems – This is what the combined portfolio of ZF and ZF TRW stands for. The company showcased this portfolio to its customers during the Safety Days at the Hockenheimring in mid-June.
Below, the ZF Concept Cockpit, where the company presented four practical innovations for highly automated driving. It comprises a special steering wheel with hands on/off detection among other things, a display with a haptic touch surface, new, highly-precise facial and emotion recognition as well as seatbelts which respond and communicate actively.
In addition, customers had the opportunity to go for a test drive with the ZF products on the driver training center's on-site test track.
Customers were thus able to get a first-hand experience of the excellent directional stability of this prototype, which is equipped with active rear axle kinematics (Active Kinematics Control, AKC) and the EPS Dual Pinion electrically powered steering system.
ZF engineers also presented the Advanced Urban Vehicle concept car – a sensation first unveiled by the company at IAA 2015. The AUV comes with a parking assist, a cloud-based cornering assist function and an electric rear-axle drive, among other things.
