University knowledge takes a road test on the race track

International flair, more than 100 race cars, and competition at a feverish pace: That is the Formula Student Germany, a competition where student teams from around the world compete against each other in various disciplines with their self-constructed race cars.

Competition of the car manufacturers of tomorrow: At the "Formula Student Germany", teams of university students from around the world compete against each other with race cars that they have designed and constructed by themselves. The students have one year to prepare for the event: The race cars are designed and constructed by interdisciplinary teams, in which students of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, and even German studies work hand in hand. The cooperative effort does not only require technical knowledge and design know-how, students also need excellent skills in organization, project management, and cost calculation. Their efforts are rewarded with the participation in a five-day competition at the Hockenheimring, where they can present their car to an expert jury at this famous race track. In addition to the competitions on the race track, the assessment will include the business plan, cost calculation, and marketing strategy. (Picture:campushunter.de)

University knowledge takes a road test: At the "Formula Student Germany", students can apply their knowledge and skills and thereby acquire key qualifications, which give them an edge over the competition when looking for a job or starting a career. The students, whose focus is predominantly on the field of engineering sciences, thereby gather practical experience in design and production, interdisciplinary teamwork, project and time management, budget planning, marketing, and specialized communication in the English language.

Since 2002, ZF has been strongly committed to Formula Student. Today, 38 university teams are sponsored. In addition to know-how, ZF supports the international young talents with financial help, high-tech racing products, team workshops or by providing support for the production of individual components, for example. Since last year, components for electric drives have also been part of the delivery portfolio for the design competition.
