Girls’ Day at ZFFocus on future careers

Many of the ZF sites participate in the nationwide Girls’ Day program aimed at offering girls insight into technical professions.

Program of activities

Many young girls still focus on ‘typical’ women’s professions and study programs. As a result, women are underrepresented in technical vocations and training programs as well as in engineering, IT and other professions. In other words, women don’t take full advantage of today’s career opportunities. This problem has also become apparent in companies and other enterprises. There is an increasing shortage of qualified personnel in technical and technology-related jobs. In order to give young girls new perspectives for their career choices, the German Federal Ministry of Research and Technology in cooperation with the National Federation of Trade Unions and the D21 Initiative launched Girls’ Day in 2001. ZF supports this program and stages special events at various ZF sites.

Girls’ Day at ZF

The events and activities staged by ZF on Girls’ Day are aimed at offering participants a look behind the scenes and helping them gain insight into the world of work and training at ZF. Along with plant tours and visits to the training centers, the girls have a chance to test out their manual and technical skills in hands-on projects. In a series of discussions with training supervisors, instructors and trainees, the girls are given an opportunity to learn more about technical vocations and application process at ZF.
