Sachs Formula Matrix Damper Standard

The Sachs Formula Matrix Damper features a patented concept with a double tube design and two adjustable valves on the outside of the damper. The valves controlling the compression and rebound damping are working independently of each other and offer the possibility to adjust both low- and highspeed damping. They restrict the oil flow created by the main piston, not the shaft, which results in low internal pressure during the stroke. Both valves are identical in rebound and compression flow direction and serve the same function. The damping force builds up rapidly and there is minimal friction from the piston and the rod seal. The result is excellent short stroke / high force performance.

The Sachs Formula Matrix Damper is a maintenance and revalving friendly damper, easy to set up, service and to rebuild thanks to the valve system on the outside of the damper. It is not necessary to take the complete shock apart. Only for reshimming or rebuild it is necessary to take the damper apart.

Sachs Formula Matrix Damper is currently used in various race classes. It can be found in Formula 3, Touring car series, the FIA GT series and in the 24h Le Mans up to Indy Car and Formula.

Sachs Formula Matrix Damper TRD

Sachs Formula Matrix Damper TRD uses a conventional damping piston but the piston rod passes right through the damping chamber and out of the other end of the damper body. This means that the chamber maintains a constant volume of damping fluid - there is no displacement of the working fluid caused by piston rod travel. Consequently, in the bump direction the damper does not have to work in opposition to the gas pressurisation of the fluid.

In a conventional damper the gas charge causes high friction and high internal pressure. The key factor of the Sachs Formula Matrix Damper TRD is running the minimum gas pressure. A low internal pressure improves responsiveness and friction behavior. Even with big temperature changes friction remains at constant levels. However, the damper system needs a minimum gas pressure for the following reasons: avoiding cavitation and compensating for the changes in oil volume due to temperature changes.

The piston in a Sachs Formula Matrix Damper TRD is not preloaded by the gas pressure so there is no so-called initial friction, which the piston in an ordinary damper has to override as well. An advantage of the Sachs Formula Matrix Damper TRD is that raising the gas pressure does not influence the reaction time of the valve system in the damping piston. Thanks to the Through Rod technology there is no more need for a second progressive gas spring, which, in conventional dampers, negatively influences the aerodynamics of the racing vehicle.
