Q: How can I identify which manual transmission is in my truck?
A: Located on the side of the transmission is an I.D. tag with the OE Part Number and the ZF Parts List Number. The best way to identify the transmission is by the ZF Parts List Number. If you cannot read the ZF Parts List Number, you can find the ZF part number by cross-referencing the Ford Number to the ZF number in the Cross Reference Charts in the Literature section.

Q: I would like to swap an older ZF manual transmission with a newer ZF manual transmission. Is this possible?
A: S5-42 units ARE NOT interchangeable with S5-47 units. S6-650 standard torque transmissions MAY be replaced with S6-650 High Torque transmissions. S6-650 High Torque transmissions can NOT be substituted with standard torque transmissions.
