Construction Transmissions

The current state of technology contained in construction equipment demonstrates how far component specialization has advanced. Specialization is the foundation for efficiency in practical use. The more specific a machine is equipped for its application; the more economically it can work. ZF is working hard to constantly and consistently provide the best solutions for customer needs.

The specialization of construction equipment requires a high degree of flexibility from driveline technology, and ZF has created partnerships with many of their customers to do just that. Using ZF products in your equipment can give you a reduction in fuel consumption, emissions, working cycles and maintenance, just to name a few. This will inevitably lead to better performance and give an owner/operator a long lasting reliable piece of equipment.

ZF Hydrostatic Transmission

Hydrostatic powershift transmissions allow a continuously variable and automatic adaptation of the ratios. This increases the driveline efficiency and simplifies handling. Typical application examples for hydrostatic powershift transmissions include wheeled loaders and wheeled excavators. The one-step axle transfer case 1AVG 95 is standard for excavators up to 10 tons. Speed is continuously variable and regulated using an accelerator pedal, which actuates the hydro units. For excavators up to 25 tons, the two-stage transmission 2HL70 and 2HL100 provide wider performance range. Depending on the total ration, the two powershiftable gears enable either increased speed range or increased traction. Top speed is approx. 35km/h, with the downshift inhibit eliminating hydromotor and transmission overspeed. Depending on the excavator design, a disc parking brake is integrated into the transmission system.

The AVG 65 and 2HL 101 (up to 10tons service weight), 3 AVG 210 and 3AVG 310 (up to 10 or 15tons) transmissions have been specially developed for wheeled loaders. The AVG 65 has one or two main speed ranges with continuously variable speed regulations via the accelerator pedal. The other transmissions have up to 3 powershiftable forward and reverse gears that cover all main areas of operation. Speed and torque adaptation is continuously variable and carried out fully automatic by the hydraulic system. So the motor works consistently within the most economical speed range. This allows the operator to fully concentrate on the tasks at hand and not what gear to select next

ZF Ergopower

The range of construction equipment in this performance class is growing ever wider, including wheel loaders, dump trucks, lift trucks, graders etc. The philosophy of this increasing specialization, which requires a high degree of driveline adaptability, is "intelligence instead of brute power". This feature applies across the entire ZF Ergopower transmission range.

This makes the ZF Ergopower suitable for every imaginable application. Finer gear stepping means that transmission is able to make better use of engine power and torque. Gear ratios configured according to axle ratios and the number of gears can be adapted depending on the application. A wide range of optional components allows the transmission to be tailored to the specific applications including direct engine and remote mounting choices.

ZF Synchro-shuttle powershift transmissions

Backhoe loaders are becoming increasingly popular. We have developed special transmissions, which make full use of the flexibility offered by this vehicle design. In addition to the WG 92 S4 having a synchronized four-speed transmission, ZF offers the full-powershift transmissions 4 WG 92 and 4 WG 98.

The transmission family includes a fully-synchronized 4-speed manual transmission and a powershift forward-reverse shuttle group with integrated torque converter. The ratios range from 4.755 (reverse 4.263) in 1st gear to 0.757 (reverse 0.678) in 4th gear. This means that the backhoe is not only efficient and easy to handle when reversing, but can also be quickly driven to wherever it's required. The transmission has a central engine dependent PTO for driving hydraulics used for working implements and power steering. An engageable drive for the front axle in all-wheel drive units is also available as an option.

Productivity is increased even further by the powershift transmissions 4 WG 92 and 4 WG 98, making these transmissions ideal for various material handling and backhoe applications.

The WG 92 S4 and the two 4 WG 92 and 4 WG 98 are covering the complete power range of the backhoe loaders and telescopic handlers.
