Test Stand Technology for Qualification and Series Production

Multipurpose main gearbox test stands and main rotor test stands of ZF Luftfahrttechnik are used in-house in development and maintenance as well as by manufacturers and operators of aircraft worldwide. For helicopter components, ZF Luftfahrttechnik develops and manufactures test stands for main gearboxes, tail and intermediate gearboxes, accessory gearboxes, main rotors, main rotor blades, and blade dampers. ZF Luftfahrttechnik has been setting the standards in this sector since 1964.

 

The newly developed and in several variants already delivered multipurpose test stand for main, intermediate and tail gear boxes incorporates our patented torque change device technology and can test under full load and full speed about 80% of all existing helicopter models (1400 kW per helicopter engine). The next test stand series up on the power and performance scale delivers 3000 kW per helicopter engine and can even take the Sikorsky CH 53E, among others.

The invaluable benefit of our patented torque change device combines for the first time the efficiency of mechanical power recovery with the flexibility of testing various test specimen having different ratios and different directions of torque and speed - without the need for time consuming conversions or set-ups of the test stand. This technology enables the use of our multipurpose test stands for both development and maintenance of series production purposes.

Main rotor test stands are designed as multipurpose test stands for main rotors and rotor blades, i.e. they can be utilized for development, series production and maintenance purposes for various helicopter models with different sense of direction and power ratings.
