The ZF MT-L 3125 wheel loader axle: That's reliability and performance – with a long life and high torque capacity - for heavy use and demanding applications. The newly designed MT-L 3125 is the largest wheel loader axle in the range and designed for maximum loads.

ZF MT-L 3125 wheel loader axle for maximum loads

ZF has extended the proven MT-L 3000 axle series with three new axle types, the MT-L 3115, MT-L 3125 and MT-L 3135. These new axle types provide the greatest reliability and performance for extremely demanding applications. Thanks to compatible assembly dimensions, integration into the vehicle is greatly simplified within these three axle types.

Megatrend: fuel savings

Compared to the previous model, the nominal torque capacity of this wheel loader axle was increased by 33% despite a lower axle weight and oil volume. This results in increased efficiency in relation to the weight – an active contribution to environmental conservation and a key objective of the design. The low-speed operating brake and open differential, which can be locked by a powershift clutch, also help increase efficiency. Overall, the combination of these detailed measures take into account the megatrend of fuel savings as a development goal.

Features of the wheel loader axle

  • For vehicle empty weights of up to 40.5 tons
  • 2600 millimeter from flange to flange
  • Torque capacity increased by 33% over the previous model
  • Axle output torque of 263,000 Newton-meters
  • Service life extended to 15,000 hours

Advantages of ZF axle technology

  • "Low-speed" (wheel speed) operating brake
  • Low power dissipation due to lower differential speeds in the brake and to cylindrical roller bearings in the planetary drive
  • Low fuel consumption
  • The bottom temperature (temperature level) in the axle is reduced by 30% – thereby slowing the rate of oil degradation
  • Optimized oil flow between the axle structure and wheel head allows a more homogeneous temperature level
  • The drag power is more than 20% lower than in high-speed braking concepts
  • No external oil cooling of the axle is required for standard use in the wheel loader
  • Lower lifecycle costs

Combinable with the EFFICIENCY PACKAGE

A further step to avoid drivetrain losses is the integration of ERGOTRACTION, which is one of the modules of the EFFICIENCY PACKAGE. ERGOTRACTION combines the advantages of the lower load torque and power losses of an open differential with high tractive forces, if needed in the case of a switchable differential. ZF thereby offers an intelligent, automatic engagement/disengagement of the differential locks. This means that 100% of the tractive force are available in all situations – with less fuel consumption and tire wear.
With the changeover to the MT-L 3000 II axle generation, switchable differentials will be offered for the entire series.
