ZF technology for conserving natural resources
More mobility with less fuel consumption
More mobility, comfort and dynamics with less fuel consumption: ZF demonstrates that this is anything but contradictory. ZF products significantly reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Every gallon of fuel saved lowers costs and helps protect the environment. But meeting future CO2 emission standards involves even more. Energy efficiency is improved with innovative technologies and the networking of active ZF products in passenger cars.
Efficient drive systems
New-generation transmissions deliver maximum performance, comfort and driving dynamics. And when it comes to cost-effectiveness and environmental protection, ZF engineers have successfully optimized energy efficiency. Since 2001, the ZF 6-speed automatic transmission has reduced fuel consumption by 8-10%. ZF is continuing along the same path with the development of an 8-speed automatic transmission that improves fuel economy by an additional 6%.
Hybrid technology
ZF is intensifying the development of hybrid drives and is already capable of supplying a full range of components along with a complete hybrid system. The high priority placed on hybrid technology at ZF is exemplified by the new 8-speed automatic transmissions. This product is designed to be integrated into a hybrid driveline without requiring additional installation space. An innovative approach to lowering fuel consumption!
Alternative materials and lightweight construction
Lowering vehicle weight reduces fuel consumption. Alternative materials including aluminum and titanium play an important role along with new design approaches. This enables ZF to integrate lightweight construction to lower the weight of transmission housings, chassis and axle components.
Energy to spare
Keeping a power steering pump on standby uses a substantial amount of energy. The Varioserv steering pump is different, because it achieves the same performance with less fluid and requires up to 40% less energy than conventional hydraulic pumps – without sacrificing comfort. Servolectric electronic steering is even more efficient. Compared to hydraulic steering, it reduces energy consumption by up to 85% because it only uses power when the steering wheel is actually turned.
