Power Steering on Demand
Servolectric electric power steering
The electric power steering system Servolectric only uses energy during steering. Compared to hydraulic power steering, the energy needed when steering is reduced by up to 85 percent – in a compact class vehicle 0.4 liters under-consumption per 100 kilometers is realistic.
Economical, Comfortable and Compatible with Other Systems
Conventional power steering systems are permanently on standby and therefore consume energy, even when the driver needs no power steering. The electric power steering system Servolectric, however, is based on the power-on-demand principle: only when the driver performs a steering motion do sensors register the corresponding steering torque and the steering speed. From these data a control device calculates within milliseconds – that is, without loss of comfort or safety – the required steering assistance. This is how the Servolectric is up to about 85 percent more economical than hydraulic power steering systems that are constantly on stand-by. Three design types the electric power steering cover all vehicle classes – from the compact cars through mid-sized and full-sized classes up to vans.

The Servolectric can also be networked with a variety of external systems. In this way the collection of sensor information of other systems, such as the stability program or the adaptive chassis control system, are also made available. For the end consumer, this means more comfort and safety.
