Active Rear Axle Kinematics

Increased Driving Dynamics,
Safety, and Comfort

Active control of rear wheels' toe

The active rear axle kinematics AKC® (which stands for Active Kinematics Control) makes another contribution to improving driving dynamics, safety, and comfort in passenger cars. AKC® replaces the passive tie rods of rear axles by variable control arms. This allows for active control of both rear wheels' toe.

The core of the system is an actuator developed by ZF that is based on a modular design and can thus be used in various rear axle systems. Another important element is an electronic control unit developed by ZF which monitors the overall system and checks at the same time whether all actuators and sensors are working properly.

Furthermore, the data retrieved from the variable control arms can be integrated in a network of active, dynamics-related systems, such as ZF's IWD (Intelligent Wheel Dynamics) concept.
