Other successful ZF Sachs AG Partnerships in Motorsports
Achievements 2008
In addition to the previous list of victories many wins and titles were also claimed in many other motorsport fields with ZF Sachs Race Engineering technology.
Before the FIA GT Championship’s final round on the 23 November the German Michael Bartels and his Italian team mate Andrea Bertolini lead the table by eight points in their Maserati MC 12. The sportscar is fitted with dampers from ZF Sachs Race Engineering. The Vitaphone Racing Team of Michael Bartels won the team championship at the penultimate round.
In the Production Car World Rally Championship, Andreas Aigner is six points behind the leader in second place before the finale on 7 December in Great Britain. The Mitsubishi driver from Austrian uses clutches and the rally group N suspension from ZF Sachs Race Engineering in his Lancer Evolution. With the Portuguese Bernardo Sousa, who is eighth, another driver in the top-ten in the 44 car field trusts German suspension technology.
A still young partnership brought the first victories in the North American market. Armin Schwarz won in the SCORE off-road championship with his Buggy in Class 1 (Unlimited Buggies) at the second round, the San Felipe 250. At the third round, the Baja 500 in June, Schwarz achieved third in class together with his team mate. At the fourth round, the Primm 300, the All German Motorsports team once again took the Class 1 victory and third overall. ZF Sachs Race Engineering clutches, a torque limiter and also adjustable anti-roll bar systems are used in the 600 PS plus Buggy. The season highlight in the SCORE series is traditionally the finale, the Baja 1000, which is held this year in 22 November.
Kenneth Hansen won the European Rallycross Championship for the 14th time. The Swede’s Citroën C4 WRC produces 518 PS and transmits it 720 Newton metre torque to all four wheels via a ZF Sachs carbon-fibre clutch. Adjustable dampers from ZF Sachs Race Engineering are also used.
At the largest German motorsport event, the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring with more than 200 participants, the ZF Sachs Race Engineering technology proved to be unbeatable in many classes. The three fastest cars in the field, headed by Timo Bernhard/Marc Lieb/Romain Dumas and Marcel Tiemann in a Manthey Racing Porsche 911 GT3, ran with ZF Sachs clutches. The products from Schweinfurt were also represented in the positions one to three in the classes N1-N2, SP Cup1, SP1-SP2, SP3 and V2. The starters in the SP3T, SP4 and V5 classes also secured a one-two with ZF Sachs Race Engineering.
Other series in which ZF Sachs Race Engineering was involved in 2008 were, among others, the Formula 3 Cup, the Renault World Series (dampers), ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup (clutches and dampers), the Mazda MX5 Cup in the USA (dampers), the Honda Endurance Cup (clutches), the Volkswagen Golf GTI Cup in Japan and the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup in the USA (each with dampers and clutches) and the Renault Mégane RS Cup (dampers).
