Dampers

The Shock absorber systems from ZF Sachs Race Engineering GmbH (ZF SRE) have brought motor sports teams of all classes worldwide to the forefront.

Successful technology, which has been developed, built and manufactured by a highly qualified and motivated team at ZF SRE. Technology, which has also been perfectly tuned with the shock absorber systems from the Performance line to the respective performance class of the vehicles for an optimal blend of performance, driving dynamics, and top reliability. The performance line has been tailored to the individual demands of ZF SRE‘s Tuning customers. It is possible to begin series production for requirements as little as 50 pieces per damper type. In special cases, ZF SRE is also able to deliver individual vehicle sets on a prototype basis.

Details/Interesting Facts

Sports chassis and dampers with high comfort and sporty tuning. For active, ambitious drivers who are looking for complete control of their vehicle in critical situations, therefore expecting perfectly tuned springs and dampers. Also for those who love to combine state of the art technology through lowering with a highly dynamic optic.

The Performance damper lengths are designed for series and sport springs for lowering up to x mm. The damper performance for the sport springs is higher and has been tailored for the increased spring rate of lowering springs. These products are only suitable for competition purposes in limited circumstances. They have been designed for street use, for customers whose needs lie primarily on daily use, but who also have an increased need for safety with additional comfort. Performance dampers are specially recommended for retro-fitting on vehicles which have already been lowered with sports springs. In moderate lowering up to 20 mm, the dampers do not necessarily need adjustment to the modified spring rate. The selection of damper technology takes place based on vehicle and application requirements. The premise is reaching the most optimal result. Here, you will find technical details on the following products: struts and monotube and twin-tube dampers.

Optimizations

If so desired, the rebound length on the damper can be shortened. This is often necessary in order to guarantee initial tension of the spring in its rebound state. In exceptional cases, the damper housing also needs to be shortened. This becomes necessary when the legally required rest ranges of spring can no longer be guaranteed at full load. In the part certificate, reference is made to cleared wheel/tire combinations. In general, attention is also given to optics; for instance, how does the vehicle look after lowering. In terms of optics, we aim for a slight wedge shape. This makes the vehicle even more dynamic.

Developmental principles

In order to reach the best result, its is necessary to get an overall picture of the chassis. Beside the selection of the special springs and the optimal dampers tailored to them, other components must also be taken into consideration and adapted when necessary. This is especially important in the case of additional springs (elastomer and rubber hollow springs). As a rule of thumb, this component is modified in hardness and length, so that this spring is not too compressed during lowering, thus affecting driving negatively (soft driving behavior).

A modified spring rate and even a different construction length may become necessary when lowering in order to reach homogeneity between all components (springs, dampers, additional springs). With the dampers, lengths (rebound length/housing length)are especially taken into consideration and adjusted as needed in order to also guarantee initial spring tension and legally required rest range of spring in unfavorable application circumstances.
