In the light of such prospects, the entire commercial vehicle industry is looking for a technology that is both cost-effective and provides for fuel economy. Here, automatic transmission systems are first choice. For example, in a truck fleet with 200 vehicles and an annual mileage of 100,000 kilometers per vehicle, the use of the AS Tronic automatic transmission can save up to 290,000 liters of fuel per year compared with manual transmissions.
Increased Safety and Comfort, Less Wear
ZF products and driveline technology do not only help save fuel or reduce emissions but they also provide for additional advantages, since they enhance comfort and safety at the same time. Moreover, automatic transmission systems reduce wear on the clutches and the driveline. The AS Tronic model range which entered the market ten years ago, is a milestone in commercial vehicle drive development for all classes. Today, with more than 400,000 units sold, the AS Tronic cannot be dispensed with anymore in commercial transport. In Western Europe, at our customers', more than 50 percent of all new commercial vehicles running in long-distance transport are equipped with our AS Tronic. Also for coaches, market shares are growing continuously.
Always in the Right Gear
The transmission keeps the engine running in the most economical speed range and thus transfers its performance efficiently to the drive axles. Gears are engaged at the right time without engagement jolts and load change shocks. These procedures help preserve the entire driveline and lead to additional savings. Consumption-intensive incorrect operation is prevented by the electronic control unit. Vis-à-vis the average truck driver, the AS Tronic generates fuel savings of five percent.
