The ZF AS Tronic also comes as a hybrid: The HyTronic for delivery trucks reduces negative environmental effects on urban green zones and vehicle owner’s wallets.

Hybrid Technology for Commercial Vehicles

 

The HyTronic full-hybrid transmission system from ZF can be integrated particularly economically in the existing drivetrain. In order to do this, the conventional AS Tronic transmission is modified with an electric motor with 60 kW (80 bhp) of power, an inverter, a high-voltage battery, power cables and power management. These additional components make the HyTronic system heavier, but the added weight is moderate and nearly compensated for by downsizing the engine and the loss of the 24V battery and starter, for example.

Above all, the HyTronic benefits delivery trucks in small-scale urban traffic with its frequent starting and stopping. It is also attractive for municipal vehicles. Their power takeoffs demand continual fuel consumption, because they are mechanically coupled to the internal combustion engine. The HyTronic's powerful generator and hybrid battery make electrical power takeoffs possible: The latter consume fuel only when needed (power-on-demand).
