IAA Cars 2011 in Frankfurt

ZF at the 64th International Motor Show

At the IAA 2011, ZF presents "Innovations of Great Value", namely to the manufacturers, the environment, and the society. Thanks to these innovations, individual mobility and driving pleasure can be combined with fuel consumption reductions, preservation of resources, and additionally enhanced safety.

  • Lightweight suspension strut with knuckle module (JPG, 748 KB) The study of a lightweight suspension strut wheel carrier module only weighs half of conventional steel suspension struts.

  • Aluminum damper (JPG, 58 KB) The lightweight damper with aluminum outer tube has been manufactured in volume production for some years. It is used among other things in various M models by BMW.

  • Passenger car brake pedal in hybrid design (JPG, 411 KB) Award-winning ZF lightweight design: ZF received the Composite Innovations Award 2011 of the CFK Valley Stade Convention for its passenger car brake pedal in hybrid design/engineering.

  • AWD Disconnect all-wheel drive system (JPG, 2.0 MB) All-wheel vehicles with front-transverse drive, like the new 9-speed automatic transmission (9HP) from ZF, are excellently suited for a decoupleable all-wheel system: in the front-operating 2WD, the entire all-wheel driveline comes to a standstill – from the angle drive to the propshaft back to the rear axle drive.

  • Continuous Damping Control (CDC) (JPG, 185 KB) The CDC adapts chassis damping continuously and precisely to the respective driving conditions - the result is more comfort, driving safety, and dynamics.

  • CDC 1XL  (JPG, 320 KB) The CDC 1XL makes subcompact cars and vans safer and more comfortable: Thanks to the extremely variable rear axle load, the cars benefit considerably from controlled damping.

  • 8-speed automatic transmission (8HP) (JPG, 374 KB) 8HP. The transmission kit: Flexible, powerful, and efficient. Due to its flexible modular design, different drive configurations, all hybrid functionalities, a stop/start function, and different all-wheel drive designs can be used

  • 8HP all-wheel drive system (JPG, 574 KB) The hybrid version of the new automatic transmission has also been designed in such a way that it can be combined with various all-wheel drive systems.

  • Hydrodynamically cooled clutch (HCC) (JPG, 891 KB) The hydrodynamically cooled clutch HCC combines the comfort of a torque-converter transmission with the sportiness of a dual clutch transmission.

  • 8HP with hydraulic impulse oil storage (JPG, 388 KB) The hydraulic impulse oil storage is a spring piston accumulator that directly supplies transmission oil to the shift elements which are essential for driving off, directly after engine start. Thus, the newly developed 8-speed automatic transmission is suitable for a stop/start function.

  • Servolectric (JPG, 648 KB) Economical and compatible with other systems: The Servolectric electric power steering system by ZF Lenksysteme. It provides information for additional safety and advanced driver assistance systems.

  • Front and rear axle systems (JPG, 731 KB) A vehicle’s front and rear axles determine its handling, driving comfort, responsiveness, and safety potential. The individual components such as wheel carriers, sensor systems, wheel suspension and control, cross members, stabilizers, suspension, and damping are equally as important when it comes to the connection between wheels and the body.

  • Corner modules (JPG, 213 KB) Corner modules as they are produced by ZF for the Land Rover Discovery and the Range Rover Sport, combine complete wheel suspension – i.e. wheel carrier, bearings, control arms, dampers, and springs – and the braking system.

  • Reversing assistant for passenger car trailers (JPG, 937 KB) The trailer assistant keeps the bending angle between trailer and towing vehicle constantly at an angle that is defined by the driver. The driver only defines this bending angle, the necessary turn of the steering wheel is automatically adjusted.
