Conserving resources

Environmental protection and a responsible handling of natural resources have ever since been an integral part of ZF's corporate philosophy.

For many years, ZF as global automotive supplier has committed itself to mobility in accordance with environmental protection. So the company is consistently focusing on technologies that save fuel, conserve resources, and minimize CO2 emissions.

Furthermore, ZF is also relying on environmentally friendly production methods. So the employees at the Passau location, for instance, developed a project for efficient energy management. Due to the conversion of manufacturing machines, 14,500 kilowatt hours of energy and 7.5 tons of carbon dioxide are saved per year per machine.

Commited to protecting owls and conserving landscape

The commitment does not only refer to the group-wide environmental management, but also covers the protection of owls at the Group location at the lake Dümmer in the north of Germany.

In 1997, the association for the protection of landscape and owls "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Biotop- und Eulenschutz Stemweder Berg e.V." was founded, based on an initiative of ZF who is still the main financial sponsor. The objective of the association is to conserve the flora and fauna of that region. In 2010, the initiative was awarded the "RWE Klimaschutzpreis", a climate protection award sponsored by the utility RWE, for its commitment.

In 1999, ZF initiated also the association "Naturraum Dümmerniederung" (landscape lake dümmer plains) and has been contributing like this decisively to safeguarding the landscape of these wetlands in the long run. The company cooperates very closely with the nature conservation station of the federal state of Lower Saxony. The main sponsor ZF donates annually EUR 35,000 to the association.
