MAN

In 1897, while working at Maschinenfabrik Augsburg, Rudolf Diesel designed the first working engine of a type that would subsequently be named after him – the diesel engine. In 1972 MAN took over the truck and bus maker Büssing, that until then had been MAN's biggest competitor on the German market. The Büssing company symbol, the Braunschweig lion, still appears under the name, MAN, on MAN trucks.

MAN MK

MAN MK

The MAN MK is the successor model to the ML series used as military vehicles. Due to the scarcity of resources after the Second World War, only a relatively small number of MKs were produced. This MAN MK is the only known MK tractor unit that is still roadworthy. The cab was built by Hendricks coachbuilders in Klewe. This rare model even has two trailers. They were build by Lindner in Berlin and used by the French military. The exhibited MK tractor unit operated in long-distance transport in Westphalia and was obtained by the current owner in 1987. It was carefully restored over seven years. The cab was completely rebuilt to its original state.

The fifties were a turning point in the history of bus production. While the major commercial vehicle manufacturers continued to build their buses on conventional bus frames, some manufacturers adopted unibody construction from cars and shifted the engine to the rear. The era of forward-control buses and coaches with large panoramic windows and generous skylights had begun! The new style was flat-fronted, yet elegant. From 1951, MAN started to use turbocharged diesel engines in its trucks. Most of the MAN MKN buses and successor models, MKN 26 and MKN 630, were produced between 1948 and 1956 with outsourced bodies.
