Hanomag
The Hannoversche Maschinenbau AG, since 1904 named Hanomag, has an exciting history. The company roots go back to the machine factory founded by Georg Egestorff 1835, one of the first locomotive manufacturers in Germany. The company supported the development of mobility and motorization in the long run with versatile applications: Since 1905, trucks have been part of the production program, followed by passenger cars, tractors, agricultural and construction machinery.
In 1968, strategic decisions of the parent company Rheinstahl led to a change in the product range; since then, pure construction machinery has been produced and the products were technically state-of-the-art. The entry of the Japanese Komatsu Group in 1989 has secured the plant's future in Hanover until today.
Passenger cars
Hanomag Rekord Typ 15 K
Between 1925 and 1940 Hanomag also produced several passenger cars. After all, the legendary "Kommissbrot" (so-called because its form alluded to the rye bread of the German army), designed as an affordable car for everyone, managed a speed of 60 km/h with a power of 10 HP. For the first time, ZF is represented in mid-size Hanomag vehicles. The Hanomag Rekord with 1.5 l engine and 32 HP which was built from 1934 also has a diesel engine and is moved by the partially synchronized ZF spiral transmission AKS 15.

Hanomag Sturm K22
The AKS 20 which is synchronized in the third and fourth gear and the ZF-Ross steering system are used in the larger Hanomag Sturm with 6-cylinder 2.3 l (50 HP) engine.
Manual transmissions and steering systems from ZF were also used from 1934 to 1940 in Hanomag's military utility vehicles and standard cars type 20 B with all-wheel drive and steering system for the Wehrmacht.

Tractors and crawler tractors
Hanomag C 115
With the production of motor plows, Hanomag finds a new business field as of 1912. At the same time, the construction of engines is advanced. The first Hanomag tractor with diesel engine is introduced to the market in 1931. Hanomag became one of the leading manufacturers of tractors, crawler tractors, and road tractors. Until 1971, Hanomag produces more than 250,000 tractors from 12 to 92 HP. ZF's products, especially steering systems, were installed in many tractors; from 1960, the ZF tractor transmission A 4 was used. Also steering axles ZF-APL 3050 were supplied for all-wheel drive vehicles.
Integrated ZF products:
Hanomag R 324
The wheel tractors R 324 in semi-frame design were built as from 1959. The 3-cylinder diesel engine has a power of 27 HP. The steering system is supplied by ZF.

Hanomag Kurier
Already in 1905, Hanomag had developed 3 and 5 t steam-driven trucks, also designed as buses. Road tractors started to be produced in high volumes as of 1933; more than 9000 vehicles of types ST 20, ST 55, and ST 100 were supplied until 1951.
After 1945, developments on the truck market were very lively. For Hanomag, the main sales volume was generated by the sale of light diesel trucks. The cab-over-engine LCV L 28 first had the ZF AKS 25 spiral transmission (first partially, then fully synchronized) and ZF-Gemmer steering system on board, but the cab-over-engine (COE) models after 1958, Kurier, Garant, and Markant with 1.75 to 3.5 t payload were equipped with ZF-Gemmer, worm and roller steering, as well as fully-synchronized manual ZF transmissions. More than 110,000 vehicles of this type were delivered.

Hanomag Garant & Markant
The new generation of Hanomag cab-over-engine vehicles is characterized by good maneuverability in city and delivery traffic. The main features are the three-seater COE cab with the front axle located behind the entry, independent suspension, and entirely new 2-stroke diesel engines.
The Garant (2.5 t payload) is offered on the market as of August 1959 and it has a 65 HP diesel engine. In the mid-60s, the engine power is increased to 70 HP.
The Markant (3 t payload) is launched in volume production as of September 1960; after 1965, this model's power rating is also increased to 80 HP. The design of the COE models, which were replaced by the new F range in 1967, hardly changed. The Hanomag F range in different sizes was built until 1977.

Hanomag wheel loader B 8 (B 70)
Hanomag was one of the first manufacturers to already launch crawler tractors as tractor vehicles in 1919. From this, first applications for earthwork in road construction were developed as from 1930. For loading work on solid ground and with lower wear, soon wheeled vehicles were used. After 1955, Hanomag was one of the first to develop wheel loaders and introduced them on the market as of 1960. Together with ZF, torque converter and powershift transmissions, rigid planetary and planetary steering axles as well as worm-and-nut power steering systems were adapted to the high requirements in robust applications.
Until 1999, the construction machines developed by Hanomag were on the market; a total of more than 45,000 tracked machines (1919 – 1995) and 41,000 wheel loaders (1960 – 1999) came from Hanover, with ZF being among the largest suppliers with over 70,000 axles and 25,000 manual transmissions, and nearly all steering systems.
