Fahr
In April 1870, Johann Georg Fahr set up the Maschinenfabrik Fahr in Gottmadingen. He was laying the foundation for an agricultural machinery manufacturer that would grow into one of the biggest in Europe. The company founder began by fabricating fodder shredders, manual threshing machines, beet cutters, straw mills, saws, fruit and wine presses, elevators and brewery equipment. Production of tractors and the development of combined harvesters started in 1938.
Fahr was the first German manufacturer to launch series production of harvesters. The first German self-propelled free-cutting combined harvester was demonstrated at the DLG Exhibition in Hamburg. In 1961, after producing 100,000 units, Fahr ceased production of tractors and started collaboration with Deutz of Cologne to manufacture rotary straw baling machines, which a few years later proved to be a huge success on the international agricultural machinery market.
