ZF Receives Supplier Innovation Award of BMW Group

ZF Friedrichshafen AG received the Supplier Innovation Award from the BMW Group: The automotive manufacturer recognized the 8-speed automatic transmission for its innovative character, a combination of energy efficiency and dynamic gear change processes.

This Supplier Innovation Award recognizes the power of innovation of BMW suppliers as an important success factor of BMW. ZF received the supplier award for the "Efficient Dynamics" category: Award-winning, the 8-speed automatic transmission which, in all BMW models, generates significant fuel savings without comprising dynamics.

"We always claim to be an inventive and technological leader in the fields of Driveline and Chassis Technology!" said Dr. Gerhard Wagner, member of the Board of Management and in charge of the Powertrain Technology division, at the award ceremony on November 7, 2011, in Munich. "The more we are delighted if we are explicitly recognized for such achievements by one of our most important customers."

In 2011, BMW awarded the Supplier Innovation Award for the very first time in nine categories. In addition to the award for the "Efficient Dynamics" category, ZF is among the nominees for the "Quality" category. The decisive factor: The ZF production system at Duncan, the US location, where front and rear axle systems are delivered just-in-time to the BMW plant in Spartanburg.

Excelling combination: The 8-speed automatic transmission provides for considerable fuel savings and, at the very same time, enables dynamic gear changes. Thanks to its saving potential of six percent, it is even more economic than the fuel-consumption optimized 6-speed automatic transmission by ZF. With the optional start-stop system or as a full hybrid variant, fuel consumption and emissions can be cut even further.
