ZF Japan Co., Ltd. is the Japanese arm of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, whose head office is located in Friedrichshafen, Germany. ZF Friedrichshafen AG is one of the top 100 German Companies and as a global supplier, is among the top 15 automotive parts suppliers worldwide. In the Driveline and Chassis Division, ZF Friedrichshafen AG has built a global development, production, sales and service network and provides advanced technology to automotive manufacturers worldwide. ZF Japan Co., Ltd. is in joint development with European automotive manufacturers and is introducing advanced ZF Technology, which is highly acclaimed in Europe, via OEM delivery to the Japanese market and is the contact point linking Japanese customers to the ZF Group.
ZF Japan Co., Ltd. was established in 1980. In 2001, ZF Friedrichshafen AG purchased Mannesmann Sachs and in addition to strengthening the management structure and systems development in Japan, in July 2006, the 3 companies of ZF Japan Co., Ltd. (transmissions and driveline), Sachs Automotive Japan Corp. (chassis parts), and ZF Marine Japan Co., Ltd. (marine propulsion), were merged to form the new company ZF Japan Co., Ltd. with the aim of providing advanced technology and high quality service to Japanese customers. This merger, in addition to strengthening the ZF Group production bases in the primary regions of the US, Europe and Asia, extended its power to bid and develop modules and systems further than its former trade in parts, enabling the company to comprehensively introduce products and technology to Japanese automotive manufacturers continuing with the expansion of production overseas and the utilization of a “World Car”.
The Driveline Technology Division handles products that combine enhanced performance with reduced fuel consumption, effectively transmitting engine output in automatic transmission, manual transmission, hybrid transmission, clutches, flywheels in passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and special purpose vehicles and transmissions for construction, axels and ship propulsion systems. The Chassis Technology Division provides completely safe, functional and comfortable products for axel and suspension systems that run and handle comfortably, as well as their components, electronic components, steering components etc. The Engineering Division provides support to both Divisions with advanced development that can respond promptly and accurately to customer requirements.
The Company maximizes the global network of the ZF Group, and with high quality, world-class technological products and a wealth of knowledge gained in trading with customers, is pursuing business activities with trusted partners on behalf of Japanese customers.

At the moment, circumstances encircling the automotive industry are changing precipitously and with higher expectations and requests for safety, comfort and economic efficiency compared to the past, companies have an increasing role to play in society. In addition to environmental and energy challenges, the industry is facing further financial challenges. These come in the form of stagnancy in the market due to a downturn in the economies of the advanced nations, as well as an expansion in the scale of the market in developing countries/resource countries, and as competition in the global automotive market gets increasingly harsh, companies are required to follow a strategy of globalization in order to succeed. Globalization and increased competition have established supply and parts development outsourcing in the automotive industry in Europe. However, the ZF Group has joint development with various automobile manufacturers. ZF has effectively utilized a global development, production, sales and service network in the OEM business, satisfied a need for high product quality, cost effectiveness, reliability and flexibility and created many competitive and innovative product systems, represented for example by the double clutch transmission (DCT) .
Furthermore, environmental protection is currently extremely important. The ZF Group has historically spent 5% of total sales on research and development and has continued to focus on developing various techniques to reduce CO2 and fuel costs, starting with a hybrid system. Although not unaffected by the worsening the business climate, we will retain investment in research and development in the future.
