Dual Wet Clutch and Torsional Damper
Dual Clutch Systems for Powershift
Transmission: Powerful shifting
Development work on the driveline aims to enhance power transmission and reduce energy loss as much as possible. Important criteria include lower fuel consumption combined with improved comfort and driving dynamics.
The Dual Clutch Transmission System is an excellent solution to accomplish all of the above. Two interlocking transmission shafts, each linked to a separate clutch, allow for powershifting without torque interruption. The central module in this transmission is the dual clutch from ZF.
A dual clutch system can be used in all passenger cars, especially high performance vehicles.
Function & Benefit
- Torque ranges from 350 to 750 Nm, peak torque of up to 1,000 Nm
- Very high thermal resistance
- Smaller space claim
- High speed stability up to 9000 rpm
- Low friction torque
- Outstanding driving dynamics
- Reduced fuel consumption
The Dual Clutch Transmission System has two clutches at its disposal. The advantage here is that two gears can be engaged at the same time. One of the clutches serves the odd-numbered gears, and the other the even-numbered ones. The complete shifting process takes a few hundredths of a second.
Shifting without interruption of torque transfer means outstanding driving comfort. Drivers can select the fully automatic mode, or change gears manually using the gear switch or lever. The fully automatic shifting program can be further enhanced by a sports mode featuring an even greater level of shifting dynamics.
