As one of the biggest suppliers of the automotive industry, ZF is also involved in motorsports. Products of the ZF Sachs Race Engineering GmbH, a subsidary of ZF Sachs, can be found in sports and racing cars in the most well-known categories. ZF Sachs as a technical partner of many manufacturers and motorsports teams worldwide has a lot of experience in racing. Product Range Motorsports
Racing teams from all over the world - from Clubsports to Formula 1 - succeed with products from ZF and rely on a technical competence which roots go back more than a century from now:
- Sachs Formula: We develop shock absorbers and clutches that are specially tailored to meet customers’ needs. Each clutch and damper is optimized down to the last detail, and produced uniquely for the customer.Our developments set new standards in all classes – from touring car contests, rallies and sports prototypes to the Formula One series. For our carbon clutches, we use only high-grade materials such as high-strength steel and titanium alloys or aluminum that meets aeronautic specifications.
New carbon friction materials improve start-up performance and reliability. Thanks to their special design, our advanced rotational dampers enhance the response and driving performance of Formula One racing cars. They also save space and weight, which considerably enhances vehicle aerodynamics.
- Sachs Racing: Our engineers have been partners of several Formula One teams for several years. This work yields direct expertise that enables the Racing Clutch System to be configured for all racing series. The focus here is on low weight and moment of inertia, in order to attain maximum engine acceleration and shorter shift times. This is achieved with the help of smaller clutch diameters and selected materials. RCS clutches can be used in almost all vehicles. Our Formula Matrix Dampers and our Racing Damper Systems can also be individually adjusted, and their modular principle means they can be precisely, reliably, and rapidly adapted to every customer need.
- Sachs Performance: Performance height-adjustable coilover suspensions are tuned on the Nürburgring and/ or the Hockenheimring race curcuits. These coilover suspensions feature sports-oriented responsiveness, long service lives, unparalleled quality, and simple handling, as well as quicker and low-priced installation. The latest innovation in the clutch fi eld is a rigid fl ywheel, which compared to conventional dual-mass designs, allows transmission of substantially higher torque levels as a 40 percent weight reduction.
